OK. So yesterday on my way to work my car keeps stalling (it was warm because I let it idle for about 5 minutes.) It just idles really low and keeps falling, then raising back up and stalling occasionally. So I take it home for lunch just to see how it runs and its warm but it runs ok without stalling and idle is pretty consitant. On the way back to work it keeps stalling again (its warmer this time as I let it warm up again.) Then last nite I take it out again to see how its running. It runs fine! even after warming up. I drive around for 15-30 minutes no problem. I drive to work this morning and its fine again. On my way home right now its running like shit! It keeps surging and it sounds like its missing, but it runs fine for a minute then erratically misses and surges. And every time It surges up I hear the computer making clicking noises. I'm assuming that its the computer anyways as its coming from behind the motor. Neil Just replaced the ECU a week or 2 before I bought it. Do you think that this ECU is bad too? Is there something that is causing my car to eat up ECU's? I think it would be a good ECU as Kris sold it to him and I've known Kris to be an honest person. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah- I also noticed that my stock boost gauge surges along with the RPM's. WTF is that? Thanks guys!

The ECU may have been OK when Kris sold it, but you should check it to make sure the capactirs are not leaking now. While in there you should also look for loose connections. The ECU kicking on and off sounds like there's more going on than an idle problem.

BTW - your vacuum/boost will fluctuate with engine RPM's. That's normal.

Yeah, i noticed that it fluctuates as the car almost dies which makes sense. The ECU has stopped clicking now, but its still stalling. It doesnt sound like its missing anymore, but it shudders and almost dies. This sucks, she had been running beautifully. Ah, the life and times of a DSM owner. smile.gif

Replace the caps in the ECU to rule that out. Then I'd set the base timing and idle speed over again, check out the biss o-ring, maybe clean out the throttle body, etc... all the typical crap to get these POS DSM's to idle decently.

OK. This sounds really dumb, but I have an oil leak somewhere around the oil filter assembly and my aux belts\pully's were covered in oil. My belts were slipping, but they werent squealing as there was not so much friction due to the oil. I took them off cleaned them up, cleaned the pullys off with brake cleaner and put them back on. I also noticed that a manifold bolt was really loose so I tightened that. Voila. She runs fine again. huh.gif
