My indecisive nature prevails again....I've run across a deal that I'm finding it difficult to make a decision about, hopefully you guys can help.
Some of you have heard that Shamou, the whale of a 3000gt is back in the area, awaiting the final touches on it's resurrection from the dead. Alas tamer than when it last terrorized the streets, it will still be a deadly beast for such a fat ass. Comfy and prestigious, a true Japanese "supercar". I think most of you have seen my Talon and know what it's about. If not, check out my garage. Basically I've got an opportunity to get Shamou back. This requires selling my Talon however, cause I'm poor. Tough decision, keep the Talon, or sell it and get Shamou... Whatca think? -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

I'd keep the Talon...but I'm biased!
The 3000 is a nice car and is fast and I wouldn't mind having one. But the Talon seems more aggressive looks wise to me and is a less complicated beast. -------------------- 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD "The Black Golfball" How fast can a 14B go???

I vote for keeping the 3Kgt. That car has a rich history with DSMC and it needs to stay that way.

It's about a dead even heat between the two cars on the forums. Got to drive the Talon down to Bloomington Saturday for MOD day, and got to blow a tire on the way back. Starting to lean towards keeping Shamou at the moment, we shall see.

That is a tough one. I haven't been able to make up my mind since I first read your post Rob.
Probably the most pointed decision maker for me would be if I couldn't make the 3000 look nearly perfect from the outside again then I wouldn't waste time. The 3000 in my mind is about a certain amount of pretige or class with performance. I'm not saying it's a Bently or a Ferrari and not nearly in the same class in this area. However, compared to a Talon or Eclipse it's a good 2-3 steps up in class or prestige in others minds. Unless it has primer on it or bent body panels...then it looks like Joe Dirt got a good deal on what used to be a good car. Your talon is getting pretty nice though... And it can always be faster than the 3000. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

And it can always be faster than the 3000. This has been a big thing for me too... for the most part, the 3000 is pretty straight. Long term plans would include pulling the few dents and getting it re-painted. The Talon may be able to go faster, but I guess I'm mellowing quite a bit, as speed isn't what it used to be. I suppose this could all be my ever prestent need to get a new car before the underwear gets changed, Lord knows it's getting pretty crusty again.... oh, and the 3000 will run and drive regaurdless of whether I keep it or not. -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

ooohh... that really does make it a tough choice. I do agree with AWD4kicks, the 3kgt certainly carries more prestige than a DSM. The beefy, muscular lines on that car really look the part of a supercar. Aside from looks however, its just not my style... its way too heavy, and the turboed lump Mitsubishi stuck in that car is a far cry from the potent 4g63. Then again, if speed truly isn't as big of a concern (to you) anymore, the 3kgt might be the way to go.

Shamou ran a 12.9 @ 10X back in the day.... and does 165mph in 4th gear. Not exactly slow.
The one thing that always really stood out to me while working on Shamou was the weight of different parts compared to a DSM. While the DSM has a lot of plastic interior panels, the 3/s typically has fiberboard panels covered with vinyl or cloth. Even the seats are 50-60lbs instead of 40. My goal with whatever car has always been to get it to run around 11.9 in the 1/4, and be able to drive too and from the track with the a/c on. Anyone interested in a cherry 93 Talon? -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

11.9 Talon = less money than 11.9 Shamou
For all thoughts and purposes, you've got a motor that will run 11.9 already built in your Talon (350-400hp per Buschur, head gasket good to 25psi). Now all you have to do is add the right components and you're gold! That 3S is giong to require a lot more work to make 11.9. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

http://www.diamondstarmotorsport.com/turbo...-compressor.jpg
Here's a good starting point. Bolt on PTE GT32E Turbocharger $850 Base Price Supports up to 520hp. (should be able to make 475 at wheels) Our test car has a stock engine, FMIC, full 3" exhaust. Spool-up is slightly better than the PTE 50 and precision says it can support more power. This makes it our standard "off the shelf" turbo. Standard Sleeve bearing center section. 3" compressor inlet, 2" outlet TO4E compressor housing. Uses the standard Garret T3T4 oil line kit. That should be more than enough turbo to do the job. Now injectors and fuel system parts, 2.5in IC pipes, FMIC, Eprom w/ logger, and you're pretty much there. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Hey Hey! At least I went with a smaller-big turbo if there is such a thing. Hahaha.
But mine is meant to perform durring daily driving the one percent of the time that it is out of the garage. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Rob!!!!
1G DSM=expensive 3000GT=much much more expensive 1G DSM=running and lots of fun 3000GT=not running and lots of frustration 1G DSM=can eventually make an 11sec pass with mods 3000GT=much harder and expensive to make that same 11sec pass I don't know about you, but I like the girls that are easy. You've got a better shot at the end of the night!! Come on Rob, use your head. End of diagram. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"
