I always thought a DSMCentral IM service would be cool. We could set something up so we can IM anyone who is either on DSMcentral or connected to the IM server in general. Or just create a specific IM forum. Don't know if we have the bandwidth for this though.

Hmmm...good idea, but I am also not sure if we have the necessary faculties. We will have to check into this.

I'm not a huge fan of the "exchange" being a seperate non connected deal from the board. I thought the classified section was just fine. My .02
As far as events go....I've had a car show for years and just a couple of people from here have ever attended. Also have thrown out a number of invites to several events with no responses or attending members. I have in the past attended more then a few gatherings and have felt the lack of turn around has hindered my presence in the DSMcentral gatherings. I hope this can change. |

I can understand where you're coming from Super, but there is one thing that you have to understand as well. With as many ads that go up and come down in the Exchange part of the site, it gets pretty overwhelming to have them in with the rest of the forum. The For Sale ads could easily overtake the General Talk section and really, it's best the way it's setup now. It's divided so that you can read the tech section, which is what DSMCentral is about, and the ticker on the side shows you the most recent posts in the For Sale section at the same time. This way tech articles or questions get the maximum attention while you can see the for sale ads at the same time and give them due attention as well. Granted, you cannot ask questions within the ad, but you can always email. It's all about giving everyone their fair chance at a thread without drowning it with For Sale ads.
Here's an idea! How about a little space below the ads in the Exchange for replies and questions to ads that sellers have. This way if someone's got a question about a product, everyone can see how they replied and that way the seller isn't flooded with emails with the same question over and over again. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Opinions and ideas are what I'm looking for so that's good info guys.
Attendance has never been as good as I would have imagined at almost any gathering. It get's you down sometimes because you think everyone wants to meet, but very few actually make the time to do so. So I've settled with being happy hanging with the few die-hard regulars that do make it. And we have a good time. ![]() -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

What about a bullshit section? You know if you just want to post up something cool that you found it don't have to go in the teck section. Just an idea!
I would love to make it to more events than I do. But having 4 kids and a dsm it kinda prevents me from doing anything. One weekend I have them all the way through and the next weekend they are at there moms. Then I have to pick them up by 6 pm on Sunday the weekend she has them. Like this weekend I would love to goto the meet and watch. But it is impossible for me to do. ![]() I don't even have time to work on Stitch or even look at her. -------------------- |

Cool! I'm glad so many are responding to this thread... It's good.
The tally for site improvement ideas so far is: Add a button to buy DSMCentral stickers with (Working on it now) Offer up additional skins for members to personalize their DSMCentral Fix the 'go to first unread thread' button Create a DSMCentral IM Service Incorporate a spell checker (God knows I could use that!) Review the Exchange site separate from DSMCentral Add a General Talk section to the forums And above all else get more events held by our members and attended by our members (That's easy... You all just need to post up your gig and everyone needs to make a good effort at making a showing! ![]() We are also in the process of updating the Adds that show in the upper right hand corner. CREBOtech is no more, KOU is defunct as far as I know and their paid subscription is up, and I need to check if Precission wants to update (Mitsu77?) All good ideas so far. Keeping in mind that we have always built this site with free IT service, we may be only able to do some of these, but we will try to do as many as are physically and financially possible. Pop-in with any other suggestions you may have. We don't have to stop there on the brainstorming. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo
