I need to repeatly cut a bunch of 2" wide 1/8" aluminum plate in identical lengths. My original plan was to use my 14" cutoff saw. Unfortunately, I just found out an abrasive saw just melts the alumium, doesn't really cut through it.

I could use my jigsaw, but it's not that accurate. I've cut a 10" chopsaw also. I did a little searching and some people are using fine alternate tooth wood blade, but that doesn't seem too safe.

So any ideas out there?

I'll bet there's a blade out there to use especially for aluminum, I know they make die grinder bits for it. I think the best would be a band saw setup, but I bet you don't have one of those.... biggrin.gif

I've used a plywood blade to cut aluminum siding type material before, but there are chunks that fly everywhere and it makes one hellatious noise....

you might also be able to bring it to 14th street hardware in Pekin, and Im sure they can cut it for yah, just dont know how much it will be. They have everything and sell all types of metals/steals and Im sure they have the right equipment to cut threw it.

just an idea!

Enter a seasoned veteran:

A fine toothed carbide blade will do the trick just fine. If you want, you can swing by my place and I'll slice it up for you. I've cut it on my table saw and miter saw multiple times without incident. You must take it slowly and be careful. Just like getting a bj from someone with epilepsy.

Let me know if you want me to give you a hand.

Goat, what was the tooth count on the blade you used? I've got both 60 and 80 tooth Freud blades.

I do have a band saw, but it's a small table top 20 year old Craftsman POS. Blade selection for it is slim to none.

That 80 tooth will work like a charm. Some prefer to spray the blade with silicone for good measure, but it makes a hell of a mess.
