Taking a drive out to Indiana this evening to pick it up. '90 AWD - No engine, no transmission, certified 6-point roll cage, certified 5 point racing harness. biggrin.gif

3-bolt rear end. dry.gif Be swappin that from my poor wrecked sumbitch.

Does anyone have a junk '90 transmission that I can have the shifter cable bracket off of? The '90 shifter is different than the '91-'94 so a different shifter cable bracket is needed on my '92 xmsn to get it to shift into all the gears.

No shifter bracket, but if you need any interior pieces or body panels to fix it up, let me know. I've also got a headliner that I noticed that it's missing. Most of the stuff I have is gonna be very cheap or free to anybody local, just to get it out of my sight. rolleyes.gif

Looks like a winer... I mean winner! wink.gif

Edit: Would a 91 shifter and a set of shifter cables accoplish the same thing as the bracket?

It would if the '91-94 shifter would bolt up. But from what I gather from Tom Stangl's comparison vfaq, the mounting holes are in different locations. I may see if I can fab up some sort of adapter plate though, because the '90 shifters have a noticeably longer throw than the '91-'94 shifters. That way I could use my shorter throw '92 shifter out of the wrecked Talon.

Shifters both bolt right up. There's a 91 shifter currently bolted into my '90 AWD. Went right in. I have a theory on the throw though that I haven't had a chance to prove yet. If you look at the transmission bracket on the '90 they are shorter than the ones on the '91. Wondering if the shorter throw of the '91 is cancelled out by the longer brackets at the transmission.

That's a nice looking car and a purty cage! Congrats on a successful search. Does the bottle in the back go with the car? biggrin.gif

Is everything ok with the front right corner? Wheel and headlight area looked a little funny but wasn't sure if it was a trick of the camera angle.

Hope you get your beast back on the road with minimal downtime!

Sweet! That's good to know, KOU. Thanks for the input. That's an interesting theory on the shifter throw. According to Stangl a 91'-94' shifter only works with the 91'-94' tranny bracket and the '90 shifter only works with the '90 tranny bracket, right? So you really have no choice but to stick with the correct bracket, right? Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say. smile.gif

Heh heh. Not sure about the bottle. I'll have to ask the guy when I get down there.

The guy said the headlights, foglights, and bumper are off the car right now. That's why it looks kinda funny from that angle.

Pretty sure you're right unless you want to go modifying bumpstops. And there might still be a problem with the 2-3 shift. Main reason I mentioned it was two-fold actually. First, you 'should' be able to use your own shifter and brackets along with your tranny and it should all bolt right up as it's all '91+

Second, I wonder about the '90 shifter sucks and is so long theory being true. I know if you look at the shifters side by side it appears to be the case but I wonder about the actual throw. Just talked myself into it rereading my own post. Throw would HAVE to be as long as bumpstop to bumpstop so should be easy to measure with just the shifter itself. Whoops, sorry for wasting everyones time on that one. rolleyes.gif

First half should still be correct though.

Adding to the confusion, I've got a 90 tranny in my car with the 91-94 brackets and a possibly shortened 91-94 shifter. The throw feels like a Miata with a short-shifter, so its almost too short for a DSM. Added with the clutch dis-engagement problems I have at high-RPM (master cylinder on the way out + worn out clutch pedal + newish clutch), I think I need to start working out tongue.gif

So it would make sense that the 90 shifter wouldn't have enough cable movement to actuate a 91+ tranny.

Congrats!!! I was just about to send you a PM to find out how it all went when I saw your post. Is it as nice as it looks in the pics?

Does it have the ECU included? I assume you're probably more up on the issues with the '90 to '91 transfers than I am but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Heh. As expected the paint job isn't good. I kinda figured that, since the only pic of the exterior he took was at a distance from only one side of the car. Other than the paint, the body itself is in good shape. It did come with a '90 ECU. I'm hoping to open it up and find an EPROM since many of the 90's came with EPROM's, but if not swapping my newly rebuilt '92 ECU in there is a matter of 2 wires.

Haha. Not yet. I will be taking the tranny, motor, rearend, and anything else of value off the wreck Saturday. Hopefully I'll have her up and running within a week or two. Guess it depends on what else I want to do while the engine's out.
