I am going to look at this car this weekend and was wondering what you guys thought about from what the guy told me. Also was wondering if any of you had any questions that i should ask while i am looking at the car. I am trying to get back into the dsm world and i think this would be a good way. I would love any feedback if you could give me some. Thanks guys.

This is the discription of the car.

This is a front wheel drive, 5 speed, turbo charged car with about 164xxx miles on it. The car has never been wrecked, passes Missouri safety and emission inspections, and is ready to drive anywhere. The interior overhead lights and the air conditioning do not work. The black hood on the car was added for my personal visual enjoyment and the body color hood is sitting in my basement and can be placed on the car easily.

I have done a lot of work to this car to make it quicker and more fun to drive. Almost all of the below work was done at either 146xxx miles or later.

I replaced the timing belts, water pump, auxilary belts, belt tensioners and guides, and had a valve job done on the head at 146000 miles.

At that time, I added a big 16G turbo, ported and polished by Archer Racing Accessories in Duluth, MN, on it, ported 2nd gen manifold, 80mm (a little bigger than 3 inches) downpipe, 80 mm high flow catalytic converter, 80mm catback exhaust on it. The car also has a TeamRip 85mm mass air flow sensor on it, magnecor wires, homemade boost controller, and arp head studs.

I added ground control coilovers with kyb agx adjustable struts and ground control front camber plates, energy suspension bushings throughout the chassis, a suspension techniques 26mm rear sway bar, and archer racing accessories front and rear strut tower bars at the same time.

The car rides on a set of 16x8 Roh Spyder wheels with Fuzion ZRi tires sized at 245/45/16. The car uses a set of front awd dual piston calipers with Carbotech Panther Plus pads up front to stop and Goodrich braided brake lines at all four corners.

The car has a fidenza aluminum flywheel and an ACT 2100 clutch that was done at 140xxx miles and I just replaced the transmission and ball joints at about 163xxx miles.

Sounds like the car has a lot of good suspension and stopping equipment as well as after market wheels and the largest tires that I've seen fit on a DSM. Sounds like it should handle very well.

Then it sounds like a good amount of engine maintenance has been taken care of with a power adder in the 16G turbo and the extra security of the ARP head studs.

It may be late for questions, but they would be:
What kind of support and tuning is there for the 16g turbo?
Upgraded fuel pump?
Upgraded fuel injectors?

Then how does the transmission feel? Particularly 2nd gear. Do any of them grind?

None of the answers to those questions would be show stoppers for me, but you should consider the extra money and time it may take to finish her to your liking.

I think it would make a great street car if not a good auto-x or road racer. biggthumpup.gif

the car has a walbro 255 high pressure high volume fuel pump to go with the turbo and the teamrip mas air flow has tuning built into the unit.
also said no griding at all and not even any notches at all.
Also said he would sell me a wrx top mount intercooler for $100 but im not really sure how extensive the fabrication would have to be for one of those used as a front mount.
He said it didn't have 550's but that he would recomend me getting them.

He is very open to questions about the car so if you guys have anymore keep them coming.

That is about it really, he said the exhausst rattles a little cuz there isnt much clearance on it. If i wrapped parts of the exhaust in heat wrap do you think that would help the rattle?

Also with all the mods that are done to it, would it be worth it for me to get some intercooler piping?
Any other mods besides the 550's you guys would look into doing soon?
Dont really have any money for expensive mods just to let yall know, in feb i will be able to if that is what i am looking to do with the car.

well with a walbro 255 I would recommend an AFPR and some -6 AN line...

For what he already has on the car, I think it sounds good assuming the workmanship is decent. If I were to look at this car and see things put together neatly and loose wires tied up I would feel more comfortable than if it looked like a hack job. That would be a deal breaker for me... All the parts in the world wont help if they are hacked up.

As for future mods, I would say you can run the way it has been described. It will run rich if it has no FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) as gsxracer is eluding to. When you get the money put in some injectors and an FPR. The larger fuel line can wait until you get a larger turbo, but is never a bad idea.

When he says the MAS Air flow sensor has tuning built into it, I assume that he means he is using a MAF Translator. I have one on my car and it is sufficient for tuning fuel for the equipment he has. To know which way to tune the fuel, you need to be able to log the engine/computer some way. Pocket logger, DSMLink or something. Without this it will be difficult to know how to tune with the possibility of leaning out the car causing engine failure. A used pocket logger can be picked-up for $75-$200 including the palm pilot.

In the mean time it sounds like fun, just keep the boost low if you get it because you don't want to outrun your stock injectors and cause a lean condition.

Alright well i can get a set of 550's for 150. They have 4000 miles on them, you think thats a good price? Also if i got them could i put them w/o a data logger w/o worrying about leaning out or should i wait to put the 550's on until I have money to get a logger, basically can i get them and put them on w/o worry about fucking up the car?
He also said the tuning on the maf was made to go with 550's

Also I can get a supra side mount for 75 and was wondering how much work it takes to mount and also wondering if i got it if i could use regular 1g piping w/ it or if i would have to have a custom kit to do. I plan on ordering intercooler piping soon so i dont want to get the piping and then get the intercooler to find out i cant use them together.

If you go ahead and get the 550's and put them in as is, you will be safer than running the stock injectors. Sounds lik a good plan.

The Supra Side mount kinda fits in the same area as the stocker, but it is not a simple bolt in process. Black92 on here may have one. The stock piping may work, but it would have to be modified. Personally I wouldn't mess with it until you get familiar with the car and it's current needs.

I've got a supra SMIC and I love it. You can see some pictures buried in this Thread I had to make up new pipes. You could probably make the upper intercooler pipe work but the lower won't. I could probably dig up some other pictures if youd like.

I would put the injectors in to make sure your safe, then get a logger! You can't tune what you have without the logger...you'd be surprised how much performance you can gain when you can optimize what you have. I tuned an .5 out at the strip one day using a logger and WB.

Would this be good for a logger?

1G DSM datalogger setup, comes with a Palm M105, Hotsync cradle, data logger cable, and Palm user manual.

Palm has MMCD V1.8g and digifix installed, new batteries,Hotsync cradle , Palm user manual, Palm CD, included also is a CD with various copies of MMCd , PalmNStein, DSM Logger, and back up files for Palm desktop manager.

Data Logger Cables are tested before shipped, and of good build quality. Comes with diagram for quick installation and reference.

$60 shipped USPS with tracking , box not included.
