So here is the deal, i am supposed to be leaving for florida on friday. I am supposed to be driving my 1.8L eclipse down there. I didn't drive it all winter and now that i started it up I'm almost positive that my water pump is going out. But I dont know if i can fix it on my own. Every place i have called around me wants like $500 to replace it and well I dont really have that kinda money, well I do except its all the money I have to go to florida on. So I need to know how easy it is, if i could do it in a day by myself. Or if anywhere around central illinois would do it for quite a bit less, like 100-150 range.
Please help as soon as possible if you can at all. -------------------- Hopefully getting back into things w/ a 90 laser rs-t

I am assuming that this is a 4G63??? the thing is that a water pump change requires removing the timing belt and in the car, that is a lot of work... so for a shop to charge $500 is accually pretty reasonable.....
accually I would say that if you are changing the water pump and it has been a while since the timing belt was swapped you should look into doing it at the same time. just my .02 -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

As gsx stated...it's a lot of work. I don't think it's possible to swap it without removing the timing belt. Probably 3-4 hours minimum. You'll never find a shop to do it for $100...and if you did I wouldn't trust their work.
