i have come across a bare block but im not sure how to figure out if its a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt. i know its a 1g block though , and theres not a crank with it. Just wondering if you guys could help me figure this out.

TJ the easiest way I know is to check the oul pan mating surface at the oil pump on the front of the engine. If this block doesn't havea crane or an oil pump I'm not sure what to tell you. If it does have an oil pump, then simply compare the mating surface with one of your old 6-bolt oil pans. The difference between the 6 and 7 bolt pans is obvious.

Isn't the main caps different on the blocks? That was the major design flaw on the engines, correct?

I could be wrong, but the 6 bolt has 3 individual sets of caps, and the 7 bolt has a single girdle like assembly for the caps.
