I hate to jump to conclusions but the clicking on the inside under the dash and clicking in the engine bay lead me to think your ECU is probably toasted. You can check this pretty easily by pulling the ECU out from behinf the center console near the inside firewall. When you open the gold box you will probably find a few capacitors have leaked acid on the board and shorted it out. If this is the case there will also be a smell similar to rotten fish from the acid too.
BTW-I would say the spark plug wire being burned off is probably not related unless the ECU has a lot more power than I think it does. Good luck! -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Sounds like the previous owner didn't take care of her. Give her a full tune up. Change your timing belt.

I'd go with Spy's compression check first to find out more about what is going on in those cylinderrs but there's always the quick and dirty push start method to get it going and find out if it's firing on all cylinders (assuming you've worked out the spark issues with plugs checked and your burnt wire replaced).
Was it running ok when you got it and developed this problem or did you pick it up as a non-runner? -------------------- |

Are you getting spark at all? Have you checked the MPI fuse? It could also be the cam/crank angle sensor. |

Sorry for the off topic but I've been wondering how Rob ironed his out. Anyone care to fill the out-of-towner in on the details of what it ended up being?

Logger says.......cam angle sensor. Switched to an extra one that Rob had lying around, put some fresh gas in, set the timing, and away she goes.

I'm a little fuzzy on relay locations but I believe the MPI relay is the one sitting against the firewall right by the battery with a black plastic cover over it.

no, I believe the MPI relay is near the radio...the MPI fuse is what you're talking about natedogg. I've got both, if you find out that's your problem Needs help.

There is a relay in the place where I'm talking about. It just may not be the MPI relay. I know where the MPI fuse is. I pull that sucker every time I check my compression or prime my fuel pump.
I'm not positive, but I think the relay you are talking about is for the fuel pump, because I can still hear it click on and off even when the MPI fuse is pulled. Course with all those pins on that relay there may be more than one function for it. If I can remember, I'll take a look in the Haynes manual when I get home from work. You may be right. |
