Well as you all know when the stock intake is modified (lower combs removed) it idles high on cold starts. Well this wasnt really that big of a deal when it wasnt so cold out, but now that its a bit colder its really annoying. On the really cold mornings it idles up at 3K rpm's. The fact that I work at 6am every morning doesnt help how annoying it is. I'm sure I wake all of my neighbors up daily with the combo of a 3" turbo back exhaust and a 3k idle. So......... my questions are, on how to fix this. Does the GM maf fix this problem? I sold the second gen so now im ready to start pumping some more cash into this beast. I wasnt planning on starting there, but if its gonna help I may just have to. Also, I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but is there a quieter solution to a fairly free flowing exhaust? I can't stand the sound of this thing. I'm hadly on it enough to spool up the turbos which is really the only time a 40-bangar sounds good IMHO, but its still horribly loud. Any suggestions on fairly quiet mufflers? Thanks guys!

Not sure how to fix the high idle for sure. I think part of my problem was that the upper honeycomb was taken out. Make sure that's not the problem. might try adjusting the BISS also.
As for the exhaust, I've decided that when I get my next one, I'm shooting for the Apexi N-1 with the removable insert in the tip. Supposed to sound "close" to stock with the insert in, but be full 3" with it removed. Down side is the $800 for a complete new exhaust. Marcus was doing some experimenting with a flowmaster, that might be an alternative. -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

try turning down the set idel screw. it's on top of the throttlebody. turn it clockwise till the idel goes down. DSM's from the factory idel at 750 - 900rpm. mine is set at about 1K

My car idles well with the GM MAF. It does idle surge when its cold outside and the engine is cold, but it usually calms down once the engine warms up. I recommend the GM MAFT to anybody. I've had great results with it.

Personally, I don't remember my idle going up noticably after I removed the lower honey comb.
I haven't had time to research the cold idle level so this may be a mute point, but if you make sure that your warm idle settings are correct it may help. First of all your ECU will not want to see an RPM higher than 1500 (warm engine) when the idle switch on the throttle body is contacted. When it's higher than this at idle is when the ECU creates the vicious idle surge cycle. As you know idle is set by the BISS. However, if you are changing the idle speed much you should jumper out the ECU while doing this as described in the VFAQ's and maintenance manuals. I have had luck changing the idle speed a few hundred RPM with out jumpering out the ECU though. If this is already preset correctly or you still have the problem after doing so, research 'fast idle speed'. Good luck! -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo
