My talon has a nice VIS c/f hood. it needs hoodpins though. i have the hoodpins but im not sure how to install them. im assuming you drill holes in the hood, but is c/f easy to drill? also im not sure how to mount the pins to the chassis. sorry i sound like an idiot, im really not. i just play one on tv.

I'd install the hood pins first or at least place/locate them. Find out exactly where they are hitting the hood. Mark and measure a couple times to be certain. Couldn't hurt to tape the top and bottom surfaces of the hood where you are drilling to help avoid splintering.
Drill a small pilot hole through the exact middle of where your pins will protrude through the hood. A side benefit of this is it lets you set the hood down onto the pin to make sure you are centered. If it's slightly off, you can redrill the pilot hole and both holes will be drilled out when you switch to the larger bit to make the full size hole. On my hood pins, there is a metal plate on the hood side that covers the edges of the holes anyways so tiny imperfections will be covered up. I'm pretty sure Eric Wort on here has a lot more experience with cutting into fiberglass and carbon fiber than I do though so hopefully he'll chime in for you. -------------------- |

The only tip I have is to run the drill bit in reverse if you're drilling into thin carbon, otherwise you should be able to run it normally. I'd try it in reverse first, as that will help keep it from chipping, and then if its taking too long, run it forward. We've never used anything more than 3-layers before, and I'm sure your hood is thicker than that. If you accidently crack it while drilling, you can repair it with fiberglass, but it won't be pretty anymore.

tip: If you mount your hood pins. then put a dab of white out on the top of the pin. While the white out is still wet lower the hood onto the pins. Then you have an EXACT spot of where they hit. Then take a flexible ruler and meaure and translate to the front.
