heres the situation: i have no money and really need a boost controlller.
my freinds say they can make me one for around $5. is this a good idea? my freind has one on his supra that is holding at 15psi, so it seems reliable. rob was tellin me about somebody building these too. are they a good alternative to lets say a "reasonably priced" turboXS manual one? what are some thoughts on this. thanks in advance. -------------------- 2001 Chevy Silverado ext. cab 4x4

Kris (akamiami) has made boost controlers in the past. The ones I've had from him have worked well. You can also pick up on from Buschur, Extreme, Mach V, and a host of other places for $50-100. Home made ones can work well, if you use the right spring. Too stiff or too soft, and it can be worse than the stock solinoid. Whatever you get, make sure it's the ball and spring type, and not the bleeder type.
As for the Turbo XS... I plan on replacing the one on the 95. I think (but not sure) that these are the bleeder type. Instructions are here for installation. -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

You could also get a Joe P MBC (http://www.joepmbc.com or http://boostcontroller.com at the bottom of the page)...I think they're only around $40. And you don't need any wrenches to adjust them

QUOTE (POS AWD @ Jan 13 2004, 05:45 PM) Home made ones can work well, if you use the right spring. Too stiff or too soft, and it can be worse than the stock solinoid. To be perfectly clear...the springs can be changed out in a home-made boost control in less than 5 minutes. So the wrong spring is not a total loss, just time to refigure the spring rate. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

QUOTE Kris (akamiami) has made boost controlers in the past. The ones I've had from him have worked well. the boost controller on mine is one that kris made, I am very happy with it, it seems to hold pressure fine, even at 18-20 psi. boost creep is minimal and the part was inexpensive, I would definately pm him if you want quality parts @ an inexpensive price. BTW he also has a whole slew of other parts that he fabricates himself that seem to work well too!!! check with him on pricing and availability. hope this doesnt seem too much like a commercial for Kris 144 motorsports, I haven't got paid!!! -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!
