I asked around and everyone seems to think my setup is kind of dangerous. My question is how much timing do you get peak?

Running 15 psi, I see a timing peak of 24-26 degrees at 6k rpm, dropping to about 20 degrees by 7k.
If its not knocking, and its not lean, its fine. With a bigger turbo like yours, you might be able to trade timing for boost, run like 18-20 degrees of advance put dial in 4-5 more psi. On a smallish 14b you're probably best off with the standard 24 degrees of advance and keeping the boost down. If you're using race gas, those limitations go out the window. You can run as much boost and timing as you want. ![]() -------------------- Eric Wort

well I'm getting around 23* at 6k and 27* by 7k. I richened it back up to try and bring my timing down. I'm thinking I'm ok since the advance is constant, but I'll see forsure when the exhaust goes on in a month or so.
Does anyone have a log of a fairly high knock run so I can see what timing does? OBDII does have its downfalls. -------------------- GVR4 866/1000 = the perpetually broken car

Thats some killer timing on pump gas. How much boost are you running?

14psi right now( I should qualify that with saying that's on my Frank 3). She pulls like mad from 4k on
Boost starts around 3800 and peaks around 4800 Timing is constant there at 15* From 4800 on it just advances. I'm thinking my 720cc injectors are doing it to me. I'll dial down the pressure when my AFPR comes in. -------------------- GVR4 866/1000 = the perpetually broken car

I agree with Eric. With that kind of timing, I doubt your engine is knocking at all. On a typical Mitsu setup if you are reading 0 knock your timing will advance, if you are reading between 3 and 7 your timing will stay the same, above 7 your timing will start to get pulled more and more as knock sums increase. Of course, WOT timing is also dependent on registered airflow (the more airflow the ECU sees, the less timing it gives you) so like you said, richening it up with the SAFC should take some of that timing away if you're uncomfortable with it.
What kind of intercooler do you have on the car? Like Darryl said, that's a lot of timing for pump gas. |

At 14 psi that timing should be fine on pump gas. At 20 psi and up that much timing is unlikely on pump gas.

I'm running a dejontool racing FMIC. I'm pretty sure the air going into the engine isn't more than 80* right now. After a good thrashing the IC isn't even warm. I'm shooting for 20-25psi this year.

I don't think you'll have any problem getting there.
