11:41pm, Saturday, March 8th, 2008. The Stop Light Of Glory.

In my little po-dunk town there's not really any ubber cars, just some lightly modded stangs and a few riced out Hondas with nothing under the hood to back up the insanity on the outside. And of course this being Red-neckville USA tons of guys in trucks with straight-piped, 6 inch, bust an ear-drum exhausts. Don't forget about the 3 foot lift kits and tires bigger than the sign in front of the X-mart.

11:17pm I made the 20 mile trip into town to see if there was anything going on besides the guys in trucks compensating for their comicly small man-hood. Saw the normal Stangs and Shevy maros, went up against a few, but soon grew bored and thought of going home and seeing what was on PBS that night. But one of those poor chaps with issues about things being small pulled up next to me and said he liked my "CHICK CAR" and asked where he could get one for his girl-freind. I laughed and kept my cool by asking if he got his "girl-freind" from the X-mart, since he was as ugly as his little 4x4. He told me to put my money where my mouth was. I said fine, 200 says I can beat your pretty little rig by 3 car lenghts. Deal he said. Easiest 200 I ever made. After that I was low on gas and went to fill-up with my hard earned money.

11:35pm Anyhow, I was filling up my 2.0L beast with the magic juice (gas) when I saw it; a white, rice free Honda Civic, save a spoiler and a front mount inter-cooler. This one sounded the part with a killer cat-less exhaust, and the tell-tale sound of a turbo. I paid, made a mad grab through the gears to catch up, and came to a stop at the "Stop Light Of Glory" (Why its called this I don't know, but it does have Wal-Mart, The X-Mart, Movie Town and BK enclosing it. Its all so a 1/2 mile straight with a slight curve in the middle, ending with another stoplight and the dough-nut/cop/gas station/ice-cream store.....thing.

11:40pm There we sat revin our monsters for all their worth, some people coming out of the X-mart with a big bag stop to watch and some of the cars behind us back up. No words were exchanged, no money bet, we both knew this was for the honor and GLORY of the brands. (Ha the name makes a little more sense now) Respect was on the line, the wrench time had been put in and it was time to see which of the brands was top-dog in Po-Dunk, Arkansas.

11:41pm The light turns that beautiful emerald green, the screams of rubber being ripped from their homes, turbos whailing for releif, the scared couple infront of X-mart drops their bag of goddies and some-where a cop looks up from his dough-nut. The white devil's whining turbo hurls the car forward giving it a 1/2 car lead out of the gate. At redline in 2nd my poor 2.0L's begging me to drop her into 3rd, but its the time is not right, Im at his rear wheels now and hoping he's about to down shift. I hit the jack-pot, I bang it into 3rd two or three seconds before he does and my DSM snarls in a fury of anger past the hated Honda. Im laughing...but I dont see the needle spinning past 7500 8000 8200, I see it, freak, and put it in 5th. My costly mistake gave him back the 1.5 car lead I had, and now we were at the slight curve in the 1/2 mile straight, I didn't realy know what to do. Going 120 on that part of the road is enough to make any guy sweat, I stuck with my gut and didnt brake, came out of the turn like a cannon and had the lead, well I thought I did. HE had installed NX on his Civic, dry.gif (Wish I had seen the niffty lil sticker on his rear window before, not that it would've matter) right after my short lived lead he flipped the switch and was gone, I had lost. But I can hold my head up with pride in the fact that even though my GST is STOCK I was able to perform so well against the first real tuner car in this small red-neck infested town.

Thanks, you always remember your first, and even though I lost, I gained something more important: a freind. I caught up with him on Monday at the E-Z mart, he's not a bad guy at all (even though he's a Honda head). Turns out he just did some sort of engine swap and that was the first time he raced with it in it. Great guy, sweet ride. Im sure a rematch is in the makes soon.

Mena Arkansas, my home town. The largest town you'll ever find where every-one still waves at everbody. Most with all five fingers, but a few with one. tongue.gif
