Well, after reflecting a bit I could go on and on about all the fun we have had over the years, from the cookouts, to the few cruises...
My fondest memory was the celebration of my 30'th bday.. My and my wife argued about what and where we were going to go all night, and somehow she drove. She never drives.. ever.. We settled on some place down town, and ended up at Old Chicago.. I was dumbfounded as I walked in and saw Darryl.. then more and more well wishers of the dsm community. My first inital thought was, hey you guys having a get together without me? Then I realized, as a single tear welled up that you guys were there for me. That some how some way, some people put this together and I was OBLIVIOUS. I had not even the slightest idea of what had been put forth. Thats probably my best memory. Followed by a close second with the old Farm Meets. Those were the best. And though things are a lot different now, we as a group still see each other more and more. I seem to recall the yellow focus and an laser RS_t getting down.. what a pos that car was. Man, late spool, it barely could get out of its own way.. and that jalopie of an old truck that Kicks had.. Man.. That brings back some memories.. Or, how bout that time we were all by spring bay, looking for some fun runs and the statement being put forth.. "there are never any cops around here" followed up by a county sherrif cruising in not 10 seconds later.. that was funny too... Silver Supra with custom great stuff foam filled IC... taken down by the nasty. Heck I even thing the focus beat it... Only to return next time with a really bad looking 944 to reclaim victor over both. What happened to those days? Life in general? Careers? I know Im busy most days, my brain being crammed full of new and usefull information, and it does weigh heavy at times that the get-togethers are fewer and farther in between... This forum has stood a test of time so far. Im happy to do my part to keep it going. Oh, last one.. PUCKER FACTOR... Natedogg and I were out in the dead of winter. Cruising in the old hudson_rocket ,herrick_rocket,spy_rocket, xian1g_rocket, Iron_goat rocket and I decided to get a little CRAZY with turning around in the middle of a unknown country road. The passenger tires went off... the whole car followed and was sitting at a 45 degree angle... Talk about nerve racking, try as I may, I couldnt get it out.. AWD doesnt work so well when your half on the road, half in a ditch and its too steep. AWD4kicks to the rescue with an old BRONCO II???? What ever happened to that thing? It pulled me out, without hesitation. Man, those were the days. -------------------- Need a boost in the pocket book and with your health?

Yeah, I miss that stuff. Hopefully, the sale on my car goes through this month and I can work on looking for a new pocket rocket so I can enjoy cruising again just like then.
One of my favorite memories is Dan air shifting at a table before we were heading up to Cordova and accidentally punching someone's glass of milk. The milk didn't spill over. For whatever reason, it just shot straight up in the air and all over everybody. It was pretty damn funny. |

I'll always be endeared to the memory of Dan being frozen like a giant meat popsicle, barely able to get out of the rocket inside my garage. He drove from Chambana to Peoria with the windows down 'cause the heater wasn't working and otherwise, the fog was too much.
Of course, that was after cracking the windshield after my sterno heater idea Good times. -------------------- QUOTE (gsxracer80 @ Oct 31 2006, 12:41 AM)

There are a TON of awesome memories for me of DSM stuff. I loved campin out at the tracks and listening to the mexican' s who stayed up all night revving their rubberband cars and playing their music.
The farm meets were great! or when the cops busted everyone out by Chillicothe..... just hanging out was fun too. -------------------- Bowen Michael Anderson 4/22/05

I have formed some of the best relationships out of my time with some people from this board.
I remember goin' all the way out to US40 Raceway for Kicks to run his car, only for it to be rained out. We got back to Willow Knolls and raced Dan. I remember the launch and the shift from 1 to 2, with the car squirting sideways, and then watching Dan do the "Spy tuck and roll" when he went by. I told Kicks how sweet that was, only for him to say he about shat himself when he did it!! Ha ha ha Every time I look at Tabasco Sauce I keep thinking of Kicks and Dan Too many good stories... I won't make this too long. -------------------- -The original (member) 007. Stop looking at me Spy!!

I didn't make it to too many events but the ones I did make it to were always fun. The Cordova trips and a few cookouts at Dan with him snapping off photos of my significant other's backside... I think probably the two most memorable moments were when I rode with Moushon to Cordova in the white rabbit with a water tank/heat exchanger between my knees and feeling the 20G spool.... HEAVEN. And definitely the drive to Cordova in my Talon. It was cold and damp, running a Beemer down on the way, trying to talk to Hammer while going 70mph and him with his open headers 383 screaming in our ears, an then WOT to the front of the pack and fuel cut making the car buck and snort the whole way. Good times.
Oh yeah, and then there's the time Dan took me for a ride in the "bird" to the auto parts store. I seriously thought I needed to wipe when I got out of the car! -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

Ok, I've been thinking about this thread for a while. I've been tempted to type a sentence or two to bring back some memories. Instead, I think it only makes sense to use the internet to it's fullest capability and paste old posts from years gone by. So here is the beginning:
Well, I built and installed a new MBC on the Slo Pony FWD with a fresh 14b. After tightening some hose clamps and remounting the radiator overflow, we got the boost set right about at 15psi. I'm not used to the FWD's so Josh (Slo Pony) and I had a pretty good time ripping the tires off in first and barking them hard in second. This thing hauls A$$ for very little dollar! While out setting things up we found four baby raccoons about to get run over. We've been hearing stories of Dan's big heart and animal saving stories lately, so we had to live up to his ideals. We ended up getting three of the growling little things into the rear hatch with a floor mat. We couldn't find the fourth, so we headed back to the garage. Dan arrived and we got one coon out no problem, but... The other two found their way into the side of the car through an open interior panel! After un-buttoning some panels and removing the back seat...Dan was able to pull them out! It was pretty crazy, but made for an interesting evening. We topped it off with a comparison between the FWD and Dan's VR4. With a nice easy 3000RPM launch in the FWD we fell behind right at the line as you would expect. However the power comes on hard about half way through first where we got within about a car an a half of Dan's front bumper where we staid until he hit the brakes! I was very impressed because that means this little pup runs about mid 14's with nothing but free mods and an MBC... This thing still idles like crap though. I'm gonna check for more vacuum leaks and maybe grounding problems Saturday. Does anyone have any other ideas? It seemed that every once in a while when the hood is shut all the lights flicker and the engine will stumble more. So that's why I'm wondering about a ground. OMG!!!OMG!!!! It was awesome. I am slow and fat! Any whoo, I see this
Silver Rx7 with huge exhaust (diameter) bellowing down grandview dr. I follow and catch up. I love that a$$. And frankley that is all I could see. Well, We pull out on to galena and it had been raining a bit so the road was wet. I had mad traction (vr4) and he did suprisingly well considering the huge rear meats he had in there. We played cat and mouse all the way to almost mossville and he pulled in front, in the turn lane to head up on to the highway. I fell in behind and sat there revving my stock exhaust. (he must not of heard me cuz he took off kinda slow) Roads were dry here. He saw me coming up on his bumper, ( I am letting off ) then I realize I should of stayed in it cuz he is running rich and is now hard on the gas, blowing unburnt fuel out the back. I run through second to third, staying on his rear end, slaloming through the banked left hand turn keeping a 2.5-3 car lag behind him knowing if he gets in trouble I wouldnt be able to out break him. WOT out of the turn I sweep left hoping to close the gap...Right. He streched that 3 car lead into like 7-8 closing in on the end of 3rd (me in third) he avoids a slow mover in front of him, I break accordingly, pulling it back down to double digits I pull along side and give a acknowledging smile and wave, some sliding handsignals etc....It was GRRREAT!!!... Old guy with a beautiful car that drives it like it was meant to be driven. I wish I would of had Nates car so I could of stayed with or blew buy him. :)Any way just wanted to pass that on..... spyonu2007 May 27, 2002 from DSMCentral YahooGroups -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

vr4 vs. gsx
though the car cant shift I did get the oppertunity to run my vr4 against the gsx from a 35 mph roll to 75 or so. The vr4 (in second gear) stayed ahead, but the gsx was only bout 1.5-2 cars behind when we let off. (Peoria heights police siting) not a fair race, (inexpwerienced gsx driver) but it does show that either my gsx runs strong, or my vr4 is a pos...The latter is probably more accurate. Based on that marcus, I would say that your tsi will destroy my vr4, and i wont even start about nates...It will/would be a slaughter......4g63t being the winner..But I do look forward to an honest motoring event, and see where we all stand. BTW, I will be buying a house soon, I am Planning on christining the new place with a cookout for all the DSM bretheren. Details to follow, still have to decide on a house. spyonu2007 Apr 24, 2002 from DSMCentral YahooGroups -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

A few old races from Yahoogroups days,
Our story telling has come a long way... awd4kicks Posted: Jun 7 2004, 03:03 AM Mon Oct 1, 2001 8:14 am Subject: Ran with a Mustang Cobra Saturday...sorta I met of my friend's Saturday night. He's big into Mustangs so you know what we were talking about! smile.gif I told him that we need to run our cars some time. He said "My cars a pup now I blew up the last engine and had to put a two barrel engine in. You need to race my little bro. He has a '93 Mustang Cobra that is pretty fast!" I turn and meet this guy hes pretty cool and we talk about Saleen's and a friend of his that has a Talon....etc., etc. We leave and as I'm crossing a road he pulls up to that stop light. Once I get to the other side he takes off and I think...hmmm maybe. So about 3 minutes later I get in my car and I start the mission! I Jump on the freeway where he went and I'm off... about 5-7 miles down the road I roll up to this black 93 Mustang Cobra cruising at about 60mph. (I ummm....passed a few people to get there smile.gif So as I sit along side of him he looks over (I can barely see him through the tinted glass) I wait for a minute, then he takes the bait! He imediately takes a car and a half lead as I switch from 5th to 3rd. (Oops, should have done that earlier) Once I was putting power to the ground I never lost anymore ground. After shifting to fourth it seemed as though I was starting to pick up some ground...then either he ran out of gear or let off at about 100-105. I didn't plan on letting off so I went flying by until about 120 and let off to reserve any luck that may be left. So, all-in-all I didn't beat him, but I was pretty pleased to not let him get away! smile.gif Who needs those four extra cylinders anyway! Hahaha ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Oct 21, 2001 12:06 pm Subject: Got what I was looking for at Cordova! Well after the crazy 'Hot Rods From Hell' caravan to Cordova I got one good run out of my car with the boost at 16PSi and 30 counts of knock! wink.gif I was able to pull a 13.946@96.26 MPH with a 1.897 60ft. time. On my second run I had the headlight out just for a comparison. I botched the run badly. When staging I got into the lights slowly, but I kinda punched the brake to stop then went directly to my reving preparation. Well, the car started to roll after I let off the brake and tripped the red light. I was befudled for a split second until the Turbo TA beside me heaved in launch. I let it rip, all too late and then I missed second as well! Geeze...a little frustrating to say the least. However the headlight removal allowed me to run 97.79MPH even with all the screw-ups. Just to give you an idea, I had a 3.221 60ft. time and just about equalled my first stock run with a 15.587! That means the headlight removal was good for about 1.5MPH which would have brought me near the 13.5ET mark. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed Oct 24, 2001 6:44 pm Subject: HhAHhA...beating up on LT1's! So I'm at a stop light on Rt. 24 bypass outside of Washington. I notice a Black ominous figure headed my way in the passing lane. As the figure drew nearer I recognized it as a mid 90's LT1 Formula Firbird. By luck the light turned green right before he had to stop, he scoots by me before I take off. I droped the hammer and blew by him right after the shift to second and I was down the road...he wasn't ready or didn't want to play I guess. Then a little luck shined my way as we both got caught by the next light. Actually he tried to slip through right at the last minute again, but he had to pull to a stop deep into the intersection. So the light turns green with my front bumper at his rear. Since he didn't take the bait last time I let the clutch out easy to see his reaction. Then I heard the V8 gurgling out the tailpipes as his RPM's climbed in a haste. So I used the rest of my pedal in first to catch-up and then I eased by him throught second. With about a half car lead in third the LT1's torque began to reel me in, but very slowly. by the time we had to slow for traffic I was still ahead by a quarter of a car! Although we weaved through the traffic and I passed him again, it was pretty much over with that. I AM ARIVING! I am so close to my initial goal it's not even funny. I am truely excited. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thu Nov 15, 2001 10:09 pm Subject: Who owns the blue WS6 TA that went to Cordova Darryl? Ask him how his car is running? I'd like to know if he has any excuses for me smoking him on rout 24 tonight!? Hahaha Actually I pulled up next to him at a light on the lonely part of Rt24. When I noticed it was him I threw him a rev and a honk, but he wouldn't look my way. When the light turned green we both kinda half- a$$ took off. I took the lead and stuck my hand out as a wave figuring that he was looking by now. By then we were both into it hard and he staid pretty much on my rear bumper (Where he belongs wink.gif. It was funny because I kept waiting for his torque to catapult him by me...then as I shifted to fourth I seen his nose JUT up to my side window and I thought it was over. But as soon as my clutch grabed again...he just fell further behind! Then it was over as we slowed down for the traffic that was comming up. He drove by me a little later, we waved and parted ways. I went home with a big **** eating grin on my face biggrin.gif. (Feeling pretty dang good) Tell him hi and thanks for the race! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mon Dec 10, 2001 7:42 am Subject: Ahhh winning is sweet! So I'm on my way to the grocery store, just thinking that I rarely see anymore hot shot racers since it started getting colder. I pull up to a stop light behind a Galant with blue neon lighting inside the car?! What ever...well he starts half-ass darting through traffic and I follow suit. He wasn't a turbo so it wasn't much fun, but as he turned off at the next light I pulled up next to a 90's Mustang GT, with a sticker that read 'Drive it like you stole it' smile.gif I look over but he's busy jawin with his GF and I'm just going to the store so I'm not revving. Light turns green and I don't wait for him, but just go about my business (about 4-5 cars ahead of everyone else). He must have noticed me at that point because about a mile down the road he caught up to my speed limit travel, went by me about a 1/2 car and then punched it. I was tooling in 4th so I try to grab 3rd with no luck and his torque sent him a few cars ahead by the time we both had to slow. DANG! That really torques me off when he doesn't go for it at the line, but uses the torqe on me later while i'm tooling around. So now I'm on him like glue and it's obvious that I'm there. We banter back and forth between traffic for a few miles and then it opens up... I'm in the passing lane and he's in the slow lane going about 40mph. As the road opens up we seem to slowly accelerate while I'm waiting for him to punch it...I goose it, but catch-up to fast and let off thinking wasn't going. Just as I do that I notice he's pulling away. Hahaha he was going! So I punch it again....boom I catch him, pass him shift to 4th and end up way ahead. I stop at the next light, but as he comes to the intersection he speeds through the right hand turn lane and escapes! Hahahaha That was fun! He had no chance once I got in the right gear... smile.gif He'd better go steel something better then that next time. -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

Man.. I remembered on from back in the day... This guy who talked crap about his FD Rx7 finally lined up against Awd4kicks.. Man it was a slaugter, but unfortunately that rx7's engine popped.. That was a shame, because it had some real potential...
Then I rememeber the first ever MRC meeting on the outskirts of town.. I thought Scorp was a poepoe.. We all eventually got some good races in, I beat Scorp... Nate beat me... Kicks and I had a few sick runs that night too... My favorite and eye opening event was the first day I met ODT.. I was out scouting around for some race action in my old 93gsx.. the same car that Rob came and looked at and eventually was bought by SCCA stang, through another party... Here is this good looking maroon talon with a throaty exhaust driving along, I come up along side, and dropped a gear, we both did, if my memory serves me correct.... But this cat turned off instead of going towards the bridge as I had been hoping for... Cut down the next block, hooked a hard left, let the 14b do its thing and within 45 seconds I was recieving a business card with the site address on it.. It was all she wrote from there. One ride in that beast was all I could take and the boost bug was ever present in my being. -------------------- Need a boost in the pocket book and with your health?

QUOTE (Dan Boles @ Dec 17 2008, 09:32 PM) I was out scouting around for some race action in my old 93gsx.. the same car that Rob came and looked at and eventually was bought by SCCA stang, through another party... Speaking of which... A couple years later, I remember Dan and I cruising in my Talon one night, spotting what we thought was his old 93GSX. We followed the current owner to some apartments in North Peoria. He was obviously a little apprehensive with two dudes driving up on him as he was getting out of his car. It was all good when we found out that this indeed was Dan's old 93GSX. This is how Ben aka: gsxracer... aka SCCA_stang joined DSMcentral. My favorite memory to date is my first real race. It was on either my first or second get together with the group. The race was my black galant VS Dan in the factory freak. Through all of 3rd and some of 4th we went. I don't remember who won, just that it was only by a nose. Good times guys. I hope to be there again someday.
