I'll be competing against this guy in NASA time trials at Autobahn this weekend. Anybody know him?

After this weekend, I might need this thread moved to Kill Stories. tongue.gif

Start your season off right! Those excited to hit the track this spring, you are in luck. Whether you are a first time HPDE driver or seasoned veteran looking for a test-n-tune, Co-op Racing has a great event lined up for you.

What: HPDE (High Performance Drivers Education) with Laps Inc. and Co-op Racing
Where: Full Course (3.56 miles, 21 turns) at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL
When: Monday, April 13, 2009
Cost: $250 for the day
Why: Because its fun!

Running the full course is a rare opportunity, and at $250, this is a bargain. Expect OVER TWO HOURS of on-track driving... that is a LOT! Laps Inc. put on a very well organized event and give you plenty of track space and seat time. Co-op Racing is promoting 20 driver spots for this event, allowing you the opportunity to run with a very exclusive group.

Lunch, snacks, and refreshments are provided. No experience necessary. Classroom and in-car instruction will be provided for beginner drivers. Helmet rentals available for $20. Fuel is available at the track.

This is a great opportunity for drivers at all levels.

We will be running as guests of Laps Inc. Registration for these spots will be handled by Andy Berberich: co-opracing@bbyoc.com. Please mention your previous performance driving experience so we can place you in the proper run group. Methods of payment include check, money order, or paypal. With 20 spots, it will fill up quickly.

Post up or contact me if any questions. cmizeur@gmail.com

By no means is this a complete list, and can be a work in progress. If you know of more events in the midwest (IL, IN, WI, MI, etc) please post up and I'll work them into the calendar.

Some of these events are more newbie friendly than others. If you are looking to sign up for your first event, I recommend an event with both classroom and in-car instruction for the entire day. Typical price of these events range from $175-300 per day (click on organizer link for event specific pricing, schedule, run groups, etc.). If you do not have a helmet, contact the organizer and see if any are available to borrow/rent or purchase yourself a nice SA2005 helmet. If your helmet starts with an M (motorcycle), it may not be allowed at all tracks/events. Some events are vert and truck friendly while others may not be. When in doubt, inquire with the organizers. You may be required to join a club for some of these events (i.e. NASA, BMWCCA, Audi club, PCA, SCCA, etc)

This list includes high performance drivers education events (HPDE's), open lapping days (limited or no instructors/classroom) and time trials for road courses in the area. Auto-X is outside the scope of this schedule and thread.

OK, so this is a looooong ways out...

This gives 4+ months notice to take that weekend off work or get the project car all buttoned-up! Mark your calendars for May 16-17, 2009.

So what do you guys think? Group trip? Who is game? I think Kazz is considering it.

Is four months enough time to get a DSM running? tongue.gif (I kid! I kid!)

How does that not look like fun?

Figured you guys would be interested in this as AMS does some tuning of Mitsubishi products. Would be a great event for Mitsu fans to hang out with others of similar taste. Good networking opportunity to get a feel for what works best in going ultra fast around the road course.

AMS is running Autobahn Full course coming up on April 28th. This is on a Monday. Autobahn country club is in Joliet, IL and their full course is one heck of a track! Imagine 21 turns over 3.5 miles... driving that at full tilt for 100 minutes! That is my idea of a day well spent. smile.gif

Cost is $245, which is typical for full course. If we have 5+ going, we can get a group rate of 10% off!

Who all wants to go? We could do a caravan up there and back, get a big Central IL corral in the pits, etc. I *believe* that spectating passengers are allowed for ride-alongs, assuming proper helmet. Even just going to hang out, its almost like a circus of highly modified EVO's (including their time attack cars) and other sports/tuner cars. Should be a good time.

Anybody with first time track event newb questions, can see my guide How to get your car on the racetrack. AMS is putting on three of these events in 2008, master thread with more specifics found HERE

Post up if you are going: (even if spectating or tentative)
