Recently Natedogg66 made some nice comments about my Talon and DSM's in general. I followed it up with the follwing reflections.

...Almost every mod to my car is set-up to support a bigger turbo in the future while at the same time providing better air flow for my current 14b DSM air pump. Keep in mind I've spent less than $2000 to-date in straight line go-fast mods. You can barely buy a full exhaust and FMIC kit for that money, much less a larger turbo.

What most people don't see in the DSM is performance potential, because they are looking for flash or a good pegboard for rice rash.

There is ABSOLUTELY no other car I have EVER tuned or worked on that has the potential performance gains on stock equipment comparable to the turbo charged AWD DSM.

For instance my old school 1992 Talon ran a 15.46 when I bought it as a stock daily driver and now it's running almost 3 full seconds faster on the stock issued components for the most part!!! That's Freakin crazy!

Sure I have a large exhaust and a manual boost controller, but the fact is the stock DSM engine and turbo setup, including injectors, ECU, side mount intercooler and intake have the potential to run 12's with the correct tuning. That is SWEET!

DSM haters...their real...they just don't have an excuse! haha

We're not done with this 14b turbo yet. We'll see if we can get her in the low 12's this year.

Marcus

Did your penis just grow an inch now because of typing that?

I think mine just shrank mad.gif sad.gif

My stock turbos are supposedly good for high 11s, but in a 3S, it takes probably $5000 to get there on them, and a buttload of EXCELLENT tuning!

To add insult to injury David... I'm looking at investing around $3000 into my car when all is said and done. This includes buying 3 cars, rebuilt motor, head work, misc minor upgraded parts (clutch, Blaha, ARP head studs, etc...) but also includes the money put back from selling parts form the now parts car. If the original plan had flown, it would have been closer to $1000-1500.... tongue.gif

Setup is good for mid 13 sec, definatly will need some tuning to get there....

Getting a little closer every day boys... biggrin.gif

I am so glad I'm on the other side of the state sometimes.

As far as bang for buck though, I'd say the turbo imports from the early 90s are definitely the way to go. I don't have 'that' much money in modifications and I have no doubt I can hang with some very fast cars.

I'd like to take it one step further and suggest that not only are DSM's the best bang for the buck, but also when you start adding serious money into the equation, I'd rather start with this platform than any other becuase no other car couples low weight, excellent handling, AWD, and excess power quite so well.

Plus, not only car marcus' car run a straight line, but that witch can twist with the best of them.

Maybe, I'm just thrilled with my car right now because, for the first time in a long time, it's holding all it's fluids without pissing them everywhere I go like some incontinent, geriatric ward patient.

DANG you guys are too kind. Especially considering the big turbos can still kick my a$$! wink.gif

I'm right with you Kris. These cars could stand on the point about straight line acceleration all by itself. Then throw in Handling, ability to lighten the car, All whether traction, Rally style snow drift racing capabilities, descent sports car look, and one of my most utilized assets...it will carry kids in the back seat on top of all of it's go fast mastery! Hahaha

Here's a strange but true measurement for how well I like the DSMs. I ALWAYS used to cruise new car lots regularly for some tempting power house treasures. I haven't done that except on a rare exception since I've purchased this car.

Sorry man, that's where we disagree. The only downfall I can see in the 1G dsm is the dash and center console. It's just embarassing how behind the times the dash was.

I'll tell you what... I bet that one fact coupled with the lack of curvy lines and smaller size are what keep 99% of the population from even getting to find out about the rest of this cars incredible treasury!

Oh and I forgot to mention...This dang thing has always gotten around 23mpg from the time I bought it even through today. Infact with the GM MAFT I'm actually seeing slightly better gas mileage! Try that on a domestic or even a 3S! wink.gif

I actually like the 1G dsm dash, it looks cool with the cluster of buttons, impressed a few girls with all of them. The design of it looks alot better than most dashes i see out there IMHO. Just a pain to get clean behind them. The center console could be better i believe, cup holders definatly in a better place then under the lid. The placement of the ash tray and lighter could have been better too, just something that you catch your arm on when your driving. Also the center console and shifter make it kinda hard to get to your girlfriend in the passenger seat, if you know what i mean. biggrin.gif

I am suprised you all feel that way. Hell, i knew nothing about this car before i got it, and i just thought it looked good. One of the reason i was sold was because of the interior. I think its awesome. Sorta like sitting in a cockpit....:vrooomvroomm, weeeeeeebleeo!:
I like to pretend my car has guns on it and i shoot people while driving....like batman. ph34r.gif
