I was just thinking earlier today that out of all the cars I own. The one with the best mileage also has the most HP.

2000 Chevy Astro van w/ 4.3 V6 - 17-18 mpg (150 crank HP if it's lucky)
2004 Chevy Silverado w/ 6.0 V8 - 12.5-13.5 mpg (300 crank HP)
1992 Eagle Talon w/ 2.0 turbo 4 - 19-22 mpg (regular commuting) (mid 500 crank HP)

Ha... Go figure

I can drain an 1/8th of a quarter of tank of gas in the Talon in one quarter mile blast at wide open throttle though. laugh.gif

similar senerio to Kicks....

the DSM gets 24-28 highway.... 17ish in town
the Cavalier gets 22-26 highway.... 19-20 in town
the Blazer gets 17-19 highway.... 17ish in town

seems the slow my cars get the worse the gas mileage is

toyota truck.. 3.0ltrs of raw unadultrated powah... 13mpg, whopping 130hp (at a guess).

Trans am.. 6.3 liter, guessing 400whp= gets 15mpg or so city/highway... got 23mpg at 80mph coming back from Indi.... not bad

That Toyoata makes me feel really good about my Trucks gas mileage at 300HP!

...And 23mpg in the TA is nice! The GM power plants all seem to get decent mileage in the sport models even with HP. biggthumpup.gif

No doubt. I think C6 vette's are rated at 28mpg on the highway while being rated at 400 hp. Not bad for an "old tech pushrod".

2006 Evo 18-22mpg city, ~25mpg highway (stock 286hp)

It seems to do better gas mileage wise in the summer which is odd because I have more fun with it during the summer. Now that it is cold, I can't even get 20mpg city.

Anti-lock brakes would have come in handy Saturday. I slid straight through a red-light, pumping the brakes and fishtailing the whole way. I got down to about 10mph but there was no stopping it. A snow plow was coming through so I sat on the horn and he managed to steer around me. After I got through the intersection, the road had been salted and was just wet. That could have been ugly.

You still running on the Advans? I remember sliding around in the snow with those. Not much of a winter weather tire.

Wow that would have sucked Red_06! Glad your safe.

AS far as poor winter mileage, I've always been told that the fuel mix for winter is the cause for this vs. the summer mix.

I've also heard cold bearings, cold diff and tranny oil, etc also. Don't know the magnitude to which those actually kill fuel mileage though...

well... from what I understand they add extra alcohol to the fuel in the winter.... no need for "heat" in the tank anymore, but it burns off faster than gasoline.

Yeah, I've still got the Advans (still under 7K miles). Those tires definitely don't help the situation. I was almost stuck in the middle of the street in front of my house last year.

2002 BMW 330i- 25 to 30 mpg
2001 Ford Escape 30-35 mpg
1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST 15 to 20 mpg

The rating on the eclipse is actually 0 right now though since its incapsitated at the moment. The BMW is a nice replacement for now though.
