I am thinking about buying a 95 auto Talon.
Problem is it wount move on it's own. When I put it in gear you can feel it engage into gear. But when you give it the gas it wount pull itself. It feels like something is spinning in the rear of the car. I was thinking he might have snapped a half shaft off in the rear pumpkin. Do any of you have any ideas? I was also wondering are the 1G and 2G auto trans the same? Thanks guys!

Bud, I don't know squat about the DSM Auto-matic transmission. (1G or 2G)
Unless you are getting a killer deal on that 2G I would be leary of purchasing someone elses problem unless you have a plan to fix it and understand the costs. I assume that's why your asking about the 1G/2G transmission...to just make a swap? -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo

I was either thinking about replacing the tranny in it or do a manual swap on it. I am getting it for a hell of a deal also. The only reason I am thinking about buying it this way is because it was is my cousins car.

My cousin Jeremy came down today and helped me diagnos the car. We have found out that it is in the rearend. When the car is in any gear it will turn the drive shaft that runs the rear tires. But the tires are not moving, LOL. So I think I am going to need a pinion gear or a whole new rearend.

Nope they are definitely not the same. Find a good used diff from a 2G. I'm pretty sure the gearing is the same in the 2G's from manual to auto.

YES BUD! LOL, they're different beasts. Someone of greater knowledge than I had told me that they thought the Auto and manual rear diff ratios were the same for the 2G's, I knew they were different for 1G's. Evidently that's where I got the misinformation.
The gear ratio sets may be the same but the differential housing, axles, and the way it bolts to the subframe are all different. You'd be better off just replacing the entire housing rather than trying to replace just the gearset as those can be quite tricky to get setup correctly. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

OK, I have a good question.
I want to know if this will cause the front wheels to not pull the car? Asiankid said that he had the same problem but the front wheels still pulled the car. I don't think this is true in my own mind. Nothin against you kid! But when the drivers side half shaft came out on my 1g it acted like it was slipping also. Almost like a bad clutch. Is it sending all the power from the tranny to the rear wheels? Could this also mean no LSD? Just a few questions running through my head. -------------------- |

All 2G AWD cars have a 50/50 viscous LSD center differential. If you are not sending any power to the front wheels something else is wrong as well. My first guess would be the center diff, but like Marcus I have little to no experience with the automatic tranny.

I am not going to buy this car.
1. I don't want to have to pay for the car twice. It is going to cost about the same to fix it as it is to buy it. 2. The WOMAN put her foot down and said NO! 3. I think I am going to finally buy another motorcycle this year. I wount have much money after this roof is done that I am working on so I figured I would just buy a bike this year. Next year will come the DSM! When we are in a new home with a bigger garage. Sorry I got everyones hopes up! But I am honestly going to have to pass on the car. Don't get me wrong I was excited too, until I found out what it would cost to fix it. I WILL HAVE ANOTHER DSM!!!!!! -------------------- |

Keep looking, Bud! Looked like a nice ride, if the running gear was any good!
Ditch the bike idea and buy a car. Sorry I'm a little jaded since face planting on the dirt bike! -------------------- 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD "The Black Golfball" How fast can a 14B go???
