Have NC...you still don't have my last set of MAPS do you? I'm going to try Jackal and would like a starting point too.

I'll look on a few thumb drives I've got around. Yours might have been on my old laptop that died on me.

I'm removing a ceiling and have about 15 garbage bags of blown fiberglass insulation from my attic. I'm going to get rid of it tomorrow, so if anyone wants some to throw in their attic let me know. You will have to pick it up in Chillicothe. I just really don't want to throw it away as it might still be usefull for someone. My buddy already took 20 bags for his garage ceiling.

If I think about it later, I'll send you the fuel and timing maps you were running previously. That should help to give you a base line to work off of.

NATHAN!!!! I need an update on the g-ride unsure.gif

She's resting in the drive way. I'm working on a plan to get her over to Patterson's place so he can get her running. I just don't have the time or a garage to work in.

I could see the 2 part control causing issues, with the coolant driven and electronic driven. Idle surge is usually from the computer overcompensating for some other issue. While you can fix the surge by bypassing, you may have other issues that need addressed.

Not trying to contradict NCGalant by any means, he's way more of an expert than I am, and I don't know the inner workings on DSMs, so don't know if it'd have any major effect. Obviously if you have no means of tracking down what causes the surge, then that would be a good workaround. But I could see the issue lying more in the coolant driven side failing, or some other problem causing the computer to adjust erratically.

Another thought would be, is there a electronic controlled FIAV you could swap on, that doesn't have the coolant controlled valve?

I guess I've never been through it far enough to block off just the FAIV as it seems to cause the bulk of the problems from what I've found. A fully electronic solution or simply blocking off the FAIV would be a good solution to that problem and get rid of some coolant lines in the process.

That's the ugliest mess of a thrown rod I've ever seen. Well at least its really really broken so you won't feel the need to try to fix it and end up here again in a couple months. I guess the wife will just have to wait rolleyes.gif .

I have had very little good luck with any of mitsubishi's FAIV/ISC's on any vehicle. Every one has idle surged leading me to block off the entire computer's control. If your ISC/FAIV are working and you are happy with your idle, then leave them alone. If they stop working, then block it off.

Its been a slow go. This week I got the timing belt done and the battery moved to the trunk. I've got a little putting together to do, but I think she might be almost ready for a road test/tune.

I got 75% of the way through the timing belt job and the tensioner shaft snapped off in my hand. I've never had that happen. Patterson353 is going to hook me up with a spair.

I've got a good used side-post battery from a Yukon if you want/can use it, in good shape only a year or 2 old. $50, was 80 new i think

I ended up buying one for 65. I was happy to start the car right back up on the new battery. I found my plates tonight. Complete with the 2009 sticker they have never been taken out of the plastic. Looks like a trip to the DMV is in order. I think I can get her to my buddy's 3 blocks away with just a plate swaped off the wife's car. I'm hoping to move it tomorrow night. With any luck I can get my timing belt swapped and everything put back together by the end of Thursday night. The weekend I'll be out of town, so I'll have to try to get as far as I can next week.

Today was a nice day, so I thought I'd get started on the galant. I ended up having to give it a jump as the old battery wouldn't take a charge. I cranked her over for 10 seconds or so with the MPI out and PB blaster down the cylinder walls to get her all lubed up. I put the plugs back in and crossed my fingers that the gas from 2008 would start. She cranked a bit without a pop. I tried her again with my foot to the floor. After 3 or 4 seconds she poped up to 3 grand. I let her drop down and she idled smooth. I didn't want to tempt fate, so I shut her down biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now I just need to swap the timing belt, move the battery to the trunk, replace my UIC pipe( currently made of PVC cool.gif ) After that I should have her on the road!!

I'd suggest either a 6 bolt bottom end swap, or a 2.4 bottom end out of a 94-98 galant. The 2.4 pistons will put up with 300-350hp and give you very nice throttle response and fuel economy. Just a thought.

Looks like it really is 6bolt time! I'm hoping to start in on mine next week Thursday and have it road worthy by the end of the weekend. I'm thinking that might be optomistic considering she's been sitting in the drive for a year and a half. Maybe I'll get lucky. Someone on this board has to have some luck left.

Hahahaha oh yea!!!!! Got the new pump on and she's running great!!!!

For about 2.5 miles!!!!! Going about 60 and I hear this noise. Had the window down and hear it a few more times. I get off the gas and boom. Look under and see oil pouring out the pan. Smelled like burnt rubber. Got it back home and there's a hole in my pan by some sweet dents. I'm not even really mad about it. I should of done the bottom end when I had it apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Live and learn!!

I deleted my photos for some reason.

It's done and running. Well it ran for about .8 of a mile. Drove it down to the gas station and ran out of gas about 400 yards away. So I decide to push it the rest of the way. Wow!!!! Huge mistake!!!! I am so out of shape it ain't funny!!!! So I fill it up and the damn fuel pump burnt up! I towed it home. What a bitch!!

Now that is some luck. Hopefully you can have her back on the road soon. I've got a window the first two weeks of April to get the galant back on the road. We should hook up after that.
