I can remember visiting the old dsm.org site and going through the links to find websites of Midwest DSM groups. This was the only one listed at the time and I immediately signed up. Many mods / cars later and I'm still here occasionaly lurking. smile.gif

I didn't make it to too many events but the ones I did make it to were always fun. The Cordova trips and a few cookouts at Dan with him snapping off photos of my significant other's backside... I think probably the two most memorable moments were when I rode with Moushon to Cordova in the white rabbit with a water tank/heat exchanger between my knees and feeling the 20G spool.... HEAVEN. And definitely the drive to Cordova in my Talon. It was cold and damp, running a Beemer down on the way, trying to talk to Hammer while going 70mph and him with his open headers 383 screaming in our ears, an then WOT to the front of the pack and fuel cut making the car buck and snort the whole way. Good times.

Oh yeah, and then there's the time Dan took me for a ride in the "bird" to the auto parts store. I seriously thought I needed to wipe when I got out of the car!

That's too bad, I was expecting better from the KDW2's.

Victoracers FTW!

EDIT: Finally watched the whole thing.

What is up with the D!CK Porsche drivers not wanting you to pass?? I assume it's one of those events where the rich CEO wants to drive his sports car around a track and really feel like he's "pushing the limits" and not wanting to believe that a lowly sub-50k car can pass his sorry excuse for a mid-life crisis purchase. As crazy as it is, it doesn't seem like you could push the car as hard even from just watching the video. Your romps in the corner don't seem as spirited and flat footed, pedal to the metal, mid-corner exits are missing compared to the other vid with the slicks.

FYI, Precision on cicenet.net is selling a set of road racing slicks that will fit an EVO. I assume you'll be wanting stickier rubber next time out.

Well I think(95% sure) I found my leak. I only found it 10% to late. It seems when I pulled off my oil pump pulley the fire time the seal came out and was wedged way back inside. I've been moving that seal from front case to front case with that seal on the pulley. All of that time, the oil pump wasn't sealing. I happend to pull the pulley off and found the entire back side of it busted into little pieces. Looks like I need a new oil pump seal and pulley. Hopefully that does it case I'm about sick of this. I'm just happy the car is still running half way well.

Don't get fed up yet, you just found the problem! biggthumpup.gif

QUOTE (Kazz5 @ Aug 14 2008, 12:07 PM)
The mid fuel trims, ideally, should come in around -5 to +5 once they settle out. Yes, they change around based on conditions, including altitude, etc. The reason we want them near those number is so that, in those extreme conditions, the ECU has plenty of room to change up as needed. If numbers are high positive or negative, I'm taking it, they have less room to fluctuate should conditions dictate more + or -.

The mid fuel trim appears to be key and is generally, initially, set by the injector "scale". That, as far as I can tell, translates to size. Changing the numbers from 750 to 731 moved mid trim down. I got an e-mail a bit ago with a new ROM saying he's stepping down to 713 to get just a bit more before we start working on WOT tuning.

From my spotty reading, it seems that, after the mids are dialed-in, variables such as injector latency voltage come into play for low trims and idle smoothness. Mix in long-term fuel trims and short-term fuel trims for low, mid, and high, and, as you can see, it gets pretty grainy.

My comment about the car running rich was based on a Mellon statement that my car was dumping in fuel (I guess that's what the higher mid fuel trim number means) and in watching the fuel gauge needle do it's imitation of a sweeping second-hand ... dry.gif ... j/k, but you get the point.

There a lot of crap on all of this in the management forums at Evom. One good example: http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=207924&page=2

Thanks for the info, that was really what I was looking for.

Two thumbs up for the front nose, I like it biggthumpup.gif biggthumpup.gif

but damn this summer's been nothing but running and bullshit and this is just more indication of how out of control it's all been.
Yeah, I have some control over this. I'm not completely whipped. But with the car down I've not staked my claim to weekends, etc. So I guess I've brought it all down on myself.

so I assume, ECU helping or not, that she's runnin' pretty rich.

As to the first part I totally agree. It's gone ridiculously fast, especially since we just bought a house, I feel I've gotten nowhere with my toys and always running around crazy or working on the house. It's madness... but lets hope that it settles when I get somewhere with my academics.

As for the assuming, are you not able to send him wideband 02 charts or values? I would think that it's way better to see wideband values rather than just mid-fuel trims. Or am I just overthinking things and you're trying to get the fuel trims to a "middle of the road" setting? I would attribute some of the difference in trim values to the difference in temperature from when you got home till when the girls went to bed as well. Of course you probably still don't want the trims that high even for a late night run.

Figured I'd post a fun topic to get back into the spirit of things since I've been kinda down about selling my quad. Post up your worst (or best depending on how you look at it) broke down stories. Anything from "I was broke down on the side of the road with a toothpick and one socket and fixed my wheel bearing" to "I was working on my auto trans DSM and rolled over and hit the remote start button in my pocket and trans fluid shot all over my face". ph34r.gif Post 'em!!!

I know my story is being broke on the side of the road for about 4 hours trying to limp my car from Bloomington to Eureka on a blown headgasket. I made it to between Carlock and Goodfield before it finally started over heating and I didn't have any extra water with me. I called Rob (AWD DSM) and he drove all the way from Eureka, picked me up, and then drove all the way back to my place (15mi East of Bloomington in the country) to pick up my tow dolly. Once we got that picked up, it was a matter of going back to pickup the car and unbolting the driveshaft about 3 feet from 70mph traffic. Rob was kind enough not to make me go with him all the way to Eureka that night. We started on our way to his house about 5:30PM and it was every bit of 10PM by the time we got the car loaded up and on the way to his place.

Well I'm only getting a 16G. Sticking with the 14B for a while. Just looking for a way to simplify running the IC piping since I'm a total n00b with no friends w/ mechanical knowledge. Lol.

I believe there is a How-To on www.vfaq.com on how to run the IC piping and keep your stock fans.

And what you say about not having friends with technical knowledge is not true. That's why you're a member here biggthumpup.gif

Is that Koyo rad thinner than stock? I don't want to cut up my fan shroud for the intercooler and would like a new radiator since mine has some slight surface rusting. I'm looking for something a little thinner if it's at all possible...

Not sure if you'll find one thinner as you start sacrificing cooling abillity when you do that. When I needed a new radiator I bought one from Silla. It was a good quality piece with brass end tanks and a copper core, which is easily repairable if it gets a hole in it. It was the stock size though.

What fan shroud are you talking about? The one that goes in front of the radiator between it and the bumper? If so, it most certainly does have to come out. I would suggest fabbing up a new one with some thin plexi or plastic. It's not hard.

I'm just curious, why would you try to go through the stock IC pipe location in the fenderwell? You could just short route it and go straight up through the radiator panel and go straight to the throttle body. I'm just thinking by short routing it that will save you quite a bit of lag time, especially with the stock turbo.

sorry to hear about your dad, hope he gets well soon!!!

One thing to check is the front main seal.  I have fought with those a few times and you wont see them leaking unless theres a load on the engine usually.  I have my blue talon pullin this crap on me and it took me two or three oil pan gaskets b4 i figured out that it was the front main seal.  Very easy to change and prolly not a bad idea to do so since its been sitting so long.

good info, I've got the car over to Corey's place(A/C in the garage) I'll tear into her tomorrow again. If it is the front seal I wonder if 20 sec on a 4000 rpm studder would show it. It's a new front case with a brand new seal, but that doesn't mean anything. Well here's hoping.....

As for dad, he's home safe and sound. Doc's got him on some meds(which I don't totally agree with). But overall things are good. To send a line up into a heart and put in a stent is really an amazing thing.

Make sure that crank isn't grooved right where the seal sits on it. Sometimes that rubber seal can actually wear the metal on the snout of the crank and create a groove, thus letting oil by. It's pretty common on higher mileage cranks.

I think Spy mentioned that the EVO guys are using the E-brake to allow them to slip the clutch a bit while revving or on the 2-step to help build boost for the launch. I don't know if my clutch would handle that kind of thing though.

This is how I got mine to launch when I had it. It takes a little practice to get used to it though. My first trip down the track at the DSMCentral drag day I red lighted because the car rolled through the beams early. I hold the clutch in, bring up the RPM's (w/o a 2-step), leave the shifter in first, and hold the e-brake button IN the entire time. When it's time to go I slam the e-brake down and grab a handfull of second. Usually you can put the e-brake down and let out on the clutch at the same time and timing works itself out, just don't be late on the e-brake. It worked pretty well for me but I never tried to power-brake on the e-brake either. Hope that helps biggthumpup.gif

Gotta be honest, even though I love work and all, the GP Sorensen products are CRAP!! Recently though Advance got it's head out of it's butt and finally made the switch to all Borg-Warner products which are way better than GP. Might give Advance a call and see if they have a Borg-Warner sensor you could order and compare to the OE.

If I go from 2nd to 1st quickly I get no grind.

I'm going to put in some 85-140W Coastal Gear oil in and see if it helps since it's never been rebuilt.

Draining the old stuff and putting in some GM Synchromesh is the best thing you can do for it.
