Sing the 7th Inning Stretch Contest

My father is in the finals of a contest with the Cubs to sing the 7th inning stretch at a game in Wrigley field and we need your vote for him to win!

He entered the contest by sending in an online form months ago-- it was a long shot. From thousands of participants who submitted an online form, he was selected and took a trip up to Chicago a week ago, along with 1000 other people who made the 1st cut, to tell the Cubs why he wanted to sing for them and give them an audition. view the video here

You guessed it...He made that cut too!! So now he's part of just 50 people who have their audition videos online for the entire world to see. (or whoever happens to click on an obscure link at the cubs.com site...)

For some sick reason, he really wants to win so that he can lead the whole crowd in a rousing chorus. I took pity on him and voted for him to win. I hope you do too!

2007 DSM shootout - Take 2

The information below is largely a repost from this thread on Evolutionm.net.

As most know, the first shootout got rained out and so today was a re-do for those willing to make a 2nd trip to Ohio.

AMS just unveiled a new setup that included a Air to Water intercooler and while they did not post their new actual HP figure, they did say they own the new record, which would suggest > 1020 hp, a +150 hp gain from their previous figure of 847 hp if memory serves me correctly. So basically, AMS changed some things on their drag car, upped the HP considerably, and went to the track in Buschur's back yard in search of reclaiming the speed record from Dave.

They set a new record for the Evo with 171.2 mph! They also hold the current ET record of 8.56 seconds. I'm not too crazy interested in drag racing these days, but those numbers are pretty impressive.

Since I know AMS has members on DSMCentral, let me be the first to say "Congrats to the entire team!"

Silverstone Track Day

This past Wednesday, 26-Sep-07, I drove about an hour and a half down to Silverstone for their Grand Prix driving day event.

To make a long story short, I got a chance to drive some sick cars and I had an absolute blast. My favorite car of the day was the Lotus Exige, but the Ferrari 360 with the F1 paddle shifter was a close second.

I got incredibly lucky because the weather was fantastic (as you can see from the pictures) and they allowed us to drive the full 3.6 mile, 17 turn circuit instead of a shortened version. So basically, I got to drive the same circuit that they use for F1 events.

Here is a video of me taking a short run in the Caterham Super 7. That car was VERY difficult to keep in a straight line.

On my instructor evaluation card, I was noted for my aggression several times. I think that driving a 4wd turbo car instills some bad driving habits that are hard to break when driving cars that require finesse. I spun out the Exige, but I just had to find out just how far I could take it before I passed the limits of the car.
