Thanks for the warning. Since I drive several of those areas on a frequent basis, I'll make sure to watch myself. Just another reason to keep it on the track.

Also make sure to be careful though construction zones, as camera's are likely to start poping up there also.

Have heard about it the last few years, but have not hung out down there since the days of lining up for burnouts.

I think the State police in general are cracking down on ANYTHING. Today driving around BN on 74/55 I saw an unmarked Dakota and an Impala, both blacked out radaring people, in addition to several staties on the north side of town. Last week I was issued warnings at an ISP roadblock on Main and Orlando in Normal for 12-602 no muffler, and no front plate. normal and bloomington PD are speedtrapping all over town now, no joke.

Also, I heard of a member of Image's site got in trouble recently, here's some info

If the police call you and say they "caught you" or "have evidence" that you were street racing at some place/time and they say you can either turn yourself in or they'll send someone to arrest you, do NOT turn yourself in. More than likely the evidence that they speak of is hearsay and won't hold up in court (if you have a lawyer that doesn't suck). Just say you have no idea what they're talking about and tell them to have a nice day.

and AFIAK jurisdictions are mostly a thing of the past. After 9-11 policing, State, County, and Municipal changed in a big way.

On the radio this morning I heard that Tazewell is going to up the patrols on county roads because of the number of teenage deaths in car accidents. The number is 16 in the last 16 months. blink.gif

Ok I just want to clear up some things here. No disrespect to Spy or anyone here, I am 19 years old. Lived in pekin for 19 years, been to the spot for 2 1/2 yrs. "The Spot" in question is more so a local car hang out much likes Kay's or whatever in bloomington. Yes there are cameras down there, but as long as you don't act like a crazy person no problems. Cops are cool down there as long as you don't smart off to them. How long has the spot been there? 20 plus years, yes some bad stuff happens but thats all a risk you are taking when hitting the streets. I would really like for more people to come down and not just get hearsay from a few people. I am sure you will have a good time.

Well I am sorry you had a bad time there mitsu90.. the one time I was down there you pulled up sat for like 10 minutes then left. That is from what I recall.

Yes the 16 kids passing is very sad and they should never be forgotten. No matter what happens though not much will change in the driving habits of people.. sadly.

EDIT: It really depends on who is down there if it is gonna be fun or not.. some kids like to ruin the fun by being a party pooper.

I was down there probably 10 years ago and after my brother got pulled over for "excessive tire noise", a cop said this and I qoute. "Guys come down here and drink their beer and smoke their dope, we don't have a problem with that. It's when they get in their cars and drive stupid that we don't tolerate."

Kind of sounds like then it was mostly an approach based on safety.

He got a ticket but I understand their reasoning. I was just suprised at the leniency for those who do partake in extracurricular activities while down there. I wasn't complaining at all.

Here is my 2 cents, not intended to offend anybody...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13090493/?from....storyContinued

That is the MSNBC story on the 15 teen deaths int he last 15 months in Tazwell county. Please notice that 2 of these deaths are due to diseases, 1 to a tractor accident, 2 to adirt bike accident, most related to alcahol. 0 related to street racing, 0 occured at the spot, 0 of the people hung out at the spot. Yes police in general have been cracking down, i myself have been ticketed twice for vehicle violations. Does this mean we should all demod our cars and stay in the house? Not if you ask me. We can still have our cars and hang out... thats what the spot is about, hanging out and bsing baout cars. I frequent the spot and have raced 0 times and have been harassed for not racing 0 times, been ticketed 0 times. If i recall correctly ( i have been wrong before) teh DSM drivers ticketed for racing near the spot were racing.. the police just said they were racing the wrong cars. If you race you run the risk of getting ticketed. This can happen anywhere. I have seen more races at the spot than anywhere else and have only seen the flashing lights 1 time. Thats pretty good odds if you ask me. The police do roll throught the spot frequently and i have NEVER seen them give anybody a problem. All i'm saying is the spot is a good car hang out and if you add up the numbers... much of the negative talk about the spot is exagerated and coming form a source that has unfortunately had a negative experience at the spot... Thank you for reading

It's nothing more than a public awareness announcement. Anyone who races always races at their own risk. Always. The more information the better.

Now let's move on. The only thing that can stop me is about 1200 parts that break in succession after another one is fixed. No racing for me at the track or otherwise.

Some of you know that I am not usually one to complain about any type of subject or "drama" that goes on and I even like reading most of it..............but this is a little ridiculous. Here is the way I see it. Did Spy have an alterior motive when posting about the crackdown? Maybe a little but I think mostly it was out of genuine "compassion" (for lack of a better term at the moment) for his fellow DSMC members as he has been know to post these "be on the lookout" posts a few times before with no alterior motive driving him. Also as I recall we have had at least one member that fairly recently got a street racing ticket in that area and at the time was not racingand if I remember right was not even exceeding the speed limit (please correct me if I am wrong). To me that would say that the cops ARE in reality "cracking down".

And please don't confuse this for anything more than it is. I have no problem with Image and hell I have never even met the guy. In fact everything that I have heard about him including from Spy leads me to believe that he is a good guy.

Bottom line sometimes you have to take things that are said at face value and not try to read something into it, and none of us know for certain what it is exactly that is going on between Image and Spy because I am sure that both of them have distorted things a little as often happens in a dispute and I think everybody should just stay the hell out of it.

Thanks Spy for the heads up.

Sorry for such the long post
