Well I haven't posted anything of substance in a while...And I won't disapoint you by changing that now!
The Good: Just 4 kicks I decided to run a G-tech and see where my little Junk yard dog sat in comparison with my previous engine... Holy-melted-piston-parts Batman! At the end of the run my G-tech was ominously flashing a 13.22 ET @ 106.5MPH. My quickest and fastest quarter mile measured to date!!! That with High knock and half my water injection. I must say I was relieved and impressed with this junk yard long block in combination with my exhaust, intake and turbo set up and maximum boost at 17psi. I will post pictures of the G-tech in my members area. Can I get an AMEN from the congregation?! The Bad: Well it wasn't a suprise but when I pulled the head off my old engine today we found that, indeed piston #1 had partially melted down to the top ring!! The valves look fine, but there is probably a cubic half inch of material missing from that piston. So a lot of debri had to be flying out the exhaust ports! It's strange how smooth the remaining area is. It appears that the piston had to have been molten in that area as it came apart. Another positive is that there is no ridge at the top of the piston bore in any of the cylinders and the bad piston didn't seem to score it's bore hardly at all. Amazing! The UGLY: Well I finished getting the rally car put back together in a mechanical sense today. As in the full stock exhaust utilizing my old test pipe and stock down pipe with the original cat back. Checked all the fluid levels which were on the spot full. Changed out a broken thermostat that had been causing the car to slightly overheat. Along with some other minor items like tightening accessory belts and such. All looked good and we had about a half hour to spare before our first potential buyer showed up. So we took it out for a test drive with the new quiet exhaust and coolant maintenance. No sooner did we get out on the road and I started adding gas did we begin to hear a strange rattle. We continued around the block, while the rattle grew louder and louder. At the beginning it sounded a bit like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle, but as we pulled into the drive and popped the hood it was all to clear by the enraged jack hammer pounding that we have a rod knocking! Right before the buyer shows up no less!!! :x Oh well we were actually happy that it didn't happen right after the buyer took it home, but it still stinks. That's about all I got tonight. I'll post pics of the piston and other parts when I get a chance. Marcus -------------------- In Loving memory of David T Crebo
