I got to 130 in the '97 TSi AWD then shit myself.
But more recently I got 140 in my new VW Jetta GLI VR6, believe it or not it was still smooth. Of course if you flip open the gas door it has Two sets of tire pressure ratings on it. One for under 100 mph and the other for sustained speeds in excess of 100 mph.

I don't agree with this guy, but I do see some reality in his points. True most DSMers do all their own work. It has been my experience that most Honda/ Toyota drivers have it done for them. From that point of view I see where he could say dsms are $$$$$. Hell some places charge you 400 bucks just to change the clutch on a dsm. I dont know of many other cars that a clutch change would cost that much. But as far as overall value goes. A 2G AWD dsm was around 22-23 grand brand new. Inflate that a few years and youre at about 25. What car can you get that is AWD with the kind of Hp, handling, and style that a DSM has. If you want a 4 door you could get the cheapest WRX and that s about it. Hondas are good cars, but to get them into the 14's you either have to swap engines 2-5grand or build up your engine and turbo charge it 3-5grand. DSMs seem like the best bang for the buck.

you've got a 2003 eclipse right? It should be under warranty. Why not take it to the dealer and get them to troubleshoot and fix it. Anything you try to do yourself could end up with them not honoring the warranty. Most warranties cover consumables (brakes, clutch, etc) for the first year or 12000 miles at least. I'd take it in if I were you.

No a vacumm line is not a vacumm line. The BOV should be ran of a line directly from the intake manifold. Ive never turbo'ed a NA before, but the BOV operates based on Manifold vacumm if I understand it correctly. I could be wrong. Even if I am, i don't think you should be able to easily move the BOV. Most MBC's T off of the BOV hose, but It shouldn't really have anything else T'ed off of it. What vacumm hose do you have it operating off of?

The 420A doesn't have a MAF sensor? I thought all modern fuel injected cars had MAF sensors. How does the computer control the engine? How does it read air flow and vacumm? I know most GMs have MAF and my wife's Neon has a MAF. What are you hooking you S-AFC to? Not doubting you though. It's just something I didn't realize. Good luck with the tuning.
Just a thought. Some how you have to measure Air flow to match the fuel flow. If it is measured before the turbo (no matter what the sensor is) and you are leaking air ( whether couplers or uncirculated BOV) you are going to run rich and your car probably will not perform its best. I would still fix the leak before setting up you wideband or S-AFC.
You said, "Im going to wait on trying to get boost until I get my fuel setup fixed. This way I dont lean it out or wash it out. " How can you adjust your fuel settings if you boost is inconsistant and incorrect? I wouldn't recommend driving around boosting the hell out of your car until you get the fuel and Air set up, but fix the leak first. Re-check all of your connections, from the exhaust manifold all the way to the intake manifold. Make sure they are all tight and aligned. Then tune.

Im no guru or anything, but if you have a boost leak after the MAF you would probably be running rich and may even throw a code. That is why they tell you to recirculate the BOV. Your MAF is reads how much air is passing through it. It then adjusts the gas mixture to match (approx.). If you are leaking air after the MAF then you computer is expecting more air then you are getting. I would approach this problem with fix the mechanical problem (leaking) first. Then if that doesn't fix it, try the electrical. It may all be steming from your boost leak. I could be wrong though.

Ive been following the recent tiburon happenings. Its a sweet looking car what can I say. I have never heard of a turbo charged tiburon or tuscani. The new top model is a 2.7l V6 with about 180 horse. There is a supercharger for this car made by alpine. Maybe that is what you heard. Go with the sound advice though. Get what you want, don't try and frankenstein it unless you have a lot of time, patience and money. Just my 2c's.

This weekend I'm going to bleed my talon out and refill it. Service shops are wanting close to 200 bucks to do it. I figure I can change it myself no problem (time aside). I just have never done any of this on a DSM.
Since there is a plethora of knowledge out there, I wanted to know what your recommendations are for fluids. 1997 Eagle Talon TSi AWD stock T25 w/ injen intake, i/c pipe upgrades & exhaust. I need to know what you'd use for oil, tranny, transfer, coolant, and rear diff.
Thanks for the help. biggthumpup.gif

The prokit only drops you about an inch, maybe a little more when they settle. The sport kit will get you almost if not all the way to a 2 inch drop. There is a big difference in ride quality, between the two. Especially if you are planning on keeping stock shocks. I would not recommend the sportkit with stock shocks, unless you want to replace the shocks shortly. If you go with the Sport lines you'll need a camber correction kit. You might not with the prokit. If you have money go with sportlines with tokico or koni adjustables. If not prokit and stock shocks might do. Middle is probably the sportlines and KYB AGX adjustables. This is just my 2cents, others will probably have different opinions.

huh.gif Is there an offical DSM Central Banner/Sticker. I know Chi-DSM has one, but I hadn't seen one here. I have one for Chi-DSM, but there are a few a$$e$ with that group, so I'd rather have a DSM Central. If not anyone want to blaze the trail and make one? I suck w/ graphics or I would.

Well I couldn't find the previous post to chi-dsm.org, but I located an article by SSC saying they put 223 to the wheels, so i believe it was to the wheels. Here's the link to SSC

If you don't like the laser body style and don't want to mess with the engine swap have you considered a cosmetic swap. A little plastic surgery. I don't remember the whole post but if you dont have flip up lights it should be fairly easy to swap bumpers sideskirts, door moldings, wings, steering wheels, etc. Then have it painted you color of choice. Just a cheap and easy alternative??? dry.gif

No one has actually spelled it out. The 1.8 Doesn't really share anything with the turbos as far as drive train goes. Body is pretty much the same and interior is also same. Other than that all the other stuff will need to go. Talons, Eclipses, Lasers= All built by Diamond Star Motors. All the exact same thing except for a few cosmetic touches. They all have The mitsubishi 4g63 engine (1G all 2.0s; 2G turbos only). Vehicles built before 1994 had a stronger 6 bolt engine. The later 7 bolt engine is weaker and could have crankwalk (basically the engine self destructs). I know you've probably seen that the 2g came from the factory with more horsepower, but the 1G engine is a much better platform to begin modifications and can handle much more power without internal mods. IE listen to the rest of the guys. They've been there done that. It's probably not their first DSM. They've probably broken it three or four times and had to fix it so they know. cool.gif

I like mopar just as much as anyone else, give my left nut for a viper, BUT AWD vs one tire fire, c'mon! huh.gif Straight out horsepower the neon mod'ed could take the EVO, but it's got .4l more displacement. I'd take the EVO anyday. Not to mention the EVO is tied for the fastest care ever through Car and Drivers slalom. The discussion goes to $'s though. One is 10 G's less then the other. What do ya do? Eat PB&J for the rest of your life and take the EVO or get the neon and eat... uh... better food.

sticker on an 04 WRX is 23,737. Sounds like a better buy then a 22-23000 Neon.
If you want the STi you'll pay allllllllloooootttt more.

I drove one of the 03's. It did haul ass, hard! Was tough to really drive it hard for two reasons. One it was a test drive, but two without the LSD i was spinning all the time. After that I tested the EVO. Definately worth the extra 10 grand. But for the price you'll never beat that Neon. I heard the 04's are going to be like 23 grand tho. Awesome for 19, don't know about 23. For that money you could almost get a WRX. huh.gif
