Figured I'd post a fun topic to get back into the spirit of things since I've been kinda down about selling my quad. Post up your worst (or best depending on how you look at it) broke down stories. Anything from "I was broke down on the side of the road with a toothpick and one socket and fixed my wheel bearing" to "I was working on my auto trans DSM and rolled over and hit the remote start button in my pocket and trans fluid shot all over my face". ph34r.gif Post 'em!!!

I know my story is being broke on the side of the road for about 4 hours trying to limp my car from Bloomington to Eureka on a blown headgasket. I made it to between Carlock and Goodfield before it finally started over heating and I didn't have any extra water with me. I called Rob (AWD DSM) and he drove all the way from Eureka, picked me up, and then drove all the way back to my place (15mi East of Bloomington in the country) to pick up my tow dolly. Once we got that picked up, it was a matter of going back to pickup the car and unbolting the driveshaft about 3 feet from 70mph traffic. Rob was kind enough not to make me go with him all the way to Eureka that night. We started on our way to his house about 5:30PM and it was every bit of 10PM by the time we got the car loaded up and on the way to his place.

I did have to help fix Darryl's race trailer when it ate a wheel bearing on the way to a race with a hammer, screw driver and a angle grinder in a parking lot...

Words you never want to hear when driving over a bridge from another car.....hey your trailer is on fire...

I could fill a few pages with just the amount of times I've been with Spy broken down. One particularly funny story is when he had the McClaren GTP. ECU (?) crapped out on the off ramp from 474 to 74... around 1am... in December... after it snowed a foot or two. Then when the tow truck came, they only had room for 2 more people. This is the downside to be the yougin'. Spy and ODT got to sit in the cab, while the JBone got to sit his bundled up ass in the freezin' "Special Edition McClaren" POS.

Yup, there's story # 856. I miss those times, though!

I will plug another one: My Fucus beet his 3S VR4 through twisties... only because a 5th to 1st gear change isn't welcomed in a DSM tranny (who knew?lol). That was pretty much the day Shamou died.

It's getting late for me. I'll let others chime in on here. We should be careful or we'll end up making this a Best "Spy broke down" Story ph34r.gif

My friend wanted to buy a dsm in IL. the guy said all that was wrong with it was a hose that went from behind the turbo to the oil cooler... so me my friend (jason), and another friend (bill) went to go get this car. fix it, and drive it home... it was about 100miles from where we lived. I parked my Car at the College. that was about 45 miles from home.

So we get up there with tools, and hose in hand... jack the car up, fix the hose. Cool, start the car up and it runs ok, had to go buy a battery. So Gave the guy the money, signed the title, and away we went on an adventure...

We get about 30 miles away going down some service road, and the car starts getting Hot. We pull over, out in the middle of nowhere, like WTF?? thermostat maybe? let it cool off a bit, and got it to a little town and pulled into a caseys. where we decide its time to do some surgery. drive all around this lil town looking for an open auto parts store, none of em were open... Sunday. So we said to heck with it. We'll just take the thermostat out. (did not know at the time that this is not a good idea on these cars) So we get the tools out start wrenching on the thermostat houseing. and of course luck would have it, a bolt was siezed up, broke right off. Damnit!!

So we brainstormed a bit, decided well, we got 1 good bolt, perhaps we can silicone the crap out of it and hope for the best... so another trip over to wal-mart and get a tube of silicone, Gobbed it on there really good. Then we need to let it sit for a couple of hours.

So about an Hour went by. A Curious Cop decided to come see what was going on, Jason and I gave him the whole story, then the Cop decided to run our names... Well Bill Found out that day that he had a Warrent for his arrest, Some kind of BS thing he didn't even know about. So we lose one of the guys that we came with. Damnit!!

Silicone seems dry, we fire it up, no leaks! Yey, so we start our decent towards home. I was now driving the cursed car.
and sure enough we get into Stl. and the car starts getting hot on the highway. so I decide to get off to let it cool down. well while exiting the ramp, I hear a POP! antifreeze goes all over the windshield! pull it over quick shut it down. popped the hood to find that the top neck for the radiator BROKE OFF! its done... so now the car is sitting in the GHETTO of stl. I thought for sure it was not going to be there tomorrow. we started the car up and moved it about a block away into a parking lot, locked it up and hoped for the best... to return the next day with a trailer (it was 1am now)

So after we get back on the road, we start talking about going and getting my car from the college since it should be no problem now that we don't need 3 ppl. and my heart fell to the bottom of my stomach when I realized Bill the guy who got arrested had my keys in his pocket blink.gif But then there was a small streak of luck... the keys fell out of his pocket and into the back seat of the car we was in.

Next day we got the car, all intact, turned out to be a blown head gasket to cause the over heating. yeah, lil different than a broken hose. Bill got out of Jail soon after, they had nothing to charge him for, I think it was something about a letter he was suppose to get and never did.
