My first DSM was a FWD and getting traction was always foremost on my mind. I did the equal-length halfshaft conversion that you mention. I also had a phantom grip installed. It made a good difference as far as straight line traction and acceleration go. I also had an aftermarket suspension set full stiff in the rear to keep as much weight on the front tires as possible. Obviously, sticky tires help out a bunch as well.
If you are suffering from wheel hop you may want to look into stiffer motor mounts. Another option for better traction in the lower gears is a multiple stage boost controller which limits your boost in the lower gears so she can bite, and then allows MAXIMUM BOOST in the higher gears. |

You can get the equal length half shaft off the front driver side of any AWD DSM. '90 matches '90, and '91-'94 matches '91-'94, not sure about the 2G's.
You can get a Phantom Grip from turbotrix for $200. |

QUOTE (TSiwrx @ Jan 7 2004, 11:44 PM) tomorrow im gonna be at slo pny's to pick up my car (hopefully) and im gonna ask if they can install the front lsd. how bout the halfshafts, is it a fairly easy thing to do? i am somewhat familiar with all that stuff, but am no jesse james, so how hard is this to do? Its easy. Will you be taking the transmission out yourself to have slopny put the lsd in it or will you have slopny take it out? If your taking the tranny out and putting it back in yourself you simply put the equal length halfshaft in instead of the stock fwd shaft. The only difference is you will bolt the center bearing on the half shaft to the back of the engine block. |
