VTEC VS. Ecotec Options

well, I met up with a ricer in a VTEC Honda tonight while driving my completely stock '04 Cav. (NO mods, just bought it)

As I was on my home from work tonight, I came to a stop sign on a coincidently straight road followed closely by a VTEC Honda Civic. As I sat at the stop waiting for the cross traffic to go through the intersection I hear the high reving Honda trumpeting through his Fart can behind me. Reving higher and higher as if trying to intise a race. dont know if he is just hard up for a dig or if he just wanted to make himself feel good by attempting to blow off a bone stock Cav.
As the traffic clears he pulls beside me and rolls down his pass. side window and begins the bench racing. He says "wanna run 'em", then I said "It's all stock but if you wanna go, I don't turn down a dig from a Honda boy"
He then said "well your gonna learn what Vtec is all about tonight"
I said "on your launch I'll go"
He launched, and as he took off he spins the tires (only about a time or two around) I pulled out, squeezing on the throttle as to not spin the tires which would induce a quick reduction of power from my traction control system.
his engine revs higher and higher but it seems to be know match for the Ecotec Cav. as I am now looking at his front fender with what looks like some fins off of a maco shark.
As my automatic trani shifts steadily into second gear I begin to see the trademark Honda Boy, body kit front bumper in my drivers side rear view.
I am now aproaching my shift into third and I am close now to a slow but very painful kill.
The Honda boy decides to keep this race alive all the way to 90 M.P.H. and then I notice that we are going to be coming up to a populated area so I back off.

I then witness the all famous Honda fly-by.


Honda Civic w/ VTEC = $9,000
Body kit = $1500
Maco shark fins on the fenders = $500
Fart can/cold air/and strut tower brace = $500

walking his egotistical ass in an absolulely bone stock Cav. = Priceless!!!!

Those shark fins are JDM though. No way you took him. I call BS unless you post pics of your HP adding stickers that evened out the mods.

This is exactly why I have never understood why anyone decides to mod a Honda. I mean what can they beat that makes them appear to have potential? I'm lost I guess, because there sure a lot more Honda owners than DSM owners.

With the Honda guys its all about naturally aspirated hp per liter. A very, VERY important statistic.

I will give Mike Ranta props though. His civic was damn fast for a n/a 4 cylinder.

And high HP/Liter is a respectable goal. But the expense required to make a Honda even remotely fast is mind boggling. That's why people that buy a Honda and automatically think it's fast blow my mind.

I just wish we could compair to thier weight. I've seen civics that run high twelves on a t-25. I'd like to see a fwd DSM do that.
