With the warm weather appraoching, and people getting anxious to start a little accelleration testing, I urge everyone to take a look at thier brake pads to make sure they can stop when the need arises.... I was installing the front shocks and springs on my car this afternoon when I happened to glance down and noticed that my pads were all but GONE. Probably another week before I would have been riding metal on metal. The wear indicators had been broken or bent so they wouldn't squeel to warn me of the lurking disaster. I'm just glad I cought it when I did...

That reminds me... I'm going to have to just go Autozone or Advance for new stuff for now... what should I look for in Pads? Organic or Semi-metalic? Anybody know if there's anyplace local that would be open tomorrow and stocks some sort of high-perf pads? Rotors will be replaced also, to get rid of the pulsing.

do not buy organic, they heat up too much too fast. buy semi metallic or ceramic, advance Auto sells ceramc pads for the front of the AWD DSM, but you have to go to Napa for the rear ceramic pads.
Advance also sells the rotors, but not cross drilled or slotted -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

I had wondered that. I have organic pads on the front of my galant. I replaced the rotors in the front not 20000 miles ago and their warped again. I break really easily for the most part. Could my pad choice cause that? Do ceramic pads cause less heat and less warpage?

Autozone sells a "high performance" pad that I believe is ceramic. However, there is a cost difference of semi metallic($15) to ceramic(almost $50). Thats just for a set of front pads

Could my pad choice cause that? Do ceramic pads cause less heat and less warpage? yes, high intensity heat on a brake rotor will cause warpage. ceramic pads to hold less heat than organic they also improve stopping distance over most other composites, yes they cost more, but they are also less abrasive on slotted and/or crossdrilled rotors than semi-metallic. I highly recommend them. -------------------- You CAN sleep in your car, but your CAN NOT race your house!!!

As do I now!! New brakes are a 100% improvement (went with the ceramic)!!
It's also nice to be rid of the howl from underneath the car (transfercase repalced, thx Travis!)... The car also rides like it's on rails now that it has the correct sized springs in it, along with a set of Tokico 5-way shocks... Yea, I've been busy... ![]() -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

its great to hear you got that damn whining noise from the rearend fixed. now you are all set. and good choice in ceramic pads. strong and silent. i had them on my 96 mx6 w/ upgraded brembo discs and the combination was amazing. glad to see the TSi comin along well.

The whining wasn't actually coming from the rear-end, but rather from the transfercase which is mounted to the tranny. No matter, it's fixed now!!
The springs are fairly stiff, and it rides about the same as the lowest corner of the car with the stock spings you had in it (front driver's side if I remember correctly). It rides like it's on rails now! ![]() Sounds like you've got one heck of a project underway there! We'll have to line em up once you get it together!! ![]() -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....
