Got a quick and probably easy question, but here it is:
My friends RS Turbo develops puddles of oil in the middle of the valve cover (where the spark plugs reside) What is the proper torque settings for the valve cover? They're all pretty tight. And does this just sound like a valve cover gasket problem or what? I wasnt sure if this would have anything to do with the problem but the fourth (farthest to left) spark plug seems to have oil developed around the threads everytime we pull it, maybe the spark plug isnt sealing right and oil is leaking through the threads into the middle area?? -------------------- 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX

Could be the valve cover gasket and/or the spark plug hole gaskets (They usually come as a set w/the VC gasket, IIRC). More, likely, however is that it's the oil fill cap gasket. Change that first and see if it helps.

i have seen a-lot of those oil-filler gaskets go bad and let a puddle of oil set in the cover, that would be a cheaper fix, check it out man

It's probably either the gasket on the oil cap or the part of the valve cover gasket that runs around the spark plugs.

Oil filler cap gasket-----sorry for the confusion man, wherever you go they should know what you are talking about
take off the oil fill cap and turn it upside down and if the gasket on it is shredded in any way it is junk, if it looks fine then it should be fine -------------------- Dodge Neon SRT-4

What happens is that they get hard and don't seal like a fresh rubber seal does. It can "look" fine and not be shredded or marred or torn, but if the rubber has become hard, it's most likely not sealing anymore. -------------------- '90 Talon TSi AWD

Either the cap seal or you could have a cracked valve cover if the bolts are that tight. The valve covers on these things are like glass... I've cracked a couple myself, even with just a nutdriver... Usually cracks around the two middle bolts by the timing gears.
