Has anyone else heard a pop, like a baloon when under boost? I had it happen last night and it felt like I lost boost at the same time. After letting off I hit the throttle again and was able to still build boost (only reved enough for 3lbs). I checked all of the couplers and could not find any out of place. I have blown the couplers off before but never had one, theoretically, swell up and pop off the pressure.

I will be doing a boost leak later tonight but thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this.

Found a serious leak right at the compressor outlet. What is the general concensus: Gasket or black RTV between the turbo and J pipe? I guess I have never tried both biggrin.gif

I tried just the gasket when i had my GSX and it leaked like crazy. Before i tore it apart someone just used RTV silicone. I ended up using the gasket and silicone and it worked just fine.

I gave it a light sand papering to get all of the old RTV off and then gave it a fresh layer. My guess is that the way it was leaking I must have actually blown the seal that the RTV had going. Also, as I was tightening one of the bolts I got that stripped feeling(the bolt not me). I think the last time I quit when it felt as if it was stripping, but having just seen that the threads were OK I kept at it. In a few more turns it snugged up real nice so I think it will hold better this time.

Thanks for the replys!

A couple of days ago I was leak testing again. I noticed that I still had a decent leak around the compressor housing/ J pipe connection. I gave the system a little extra pressure this time and... what the... the damn J pipe is leaking around the flange! Whoever does RREs J pipes did a crap welding job and left a couple of pin holes. I hit them with JB weld inside and out.

The moral of this story is that the debate of gasket vs. RTV does not matter if your flange leaks...
