Can anybody tell me how I can get a non running awd car from Chicago back to Peoria? Is there a company that I can get ahold of, or anyone that wants to make a few $ and might be able to help me out? I have a friend that has an old van so I guess I could find a trailer, anywhere I might be able to rent one? I'm lost, and need to pick up a roller I found in Chicago by next weekend.

Dolly won't work for an AWD, but they do rent trailers also. They're like $50 a day, and don't work too bad. Probably your best bet.

Yep U-haul. A couple years a go I hauled the Cobra down to Miami and broght the trailer back in 4 days over a weekend and I think I only paid between $25 nad $75 at the Washington Napa/U-haul. Sweet deal.

Unless the vehicle being used to tow the trailer and car is large enough, U-haul won't let you rent from them. You CAN rent a tow dolly from them, though. You have to disconnect the driveshaft from the rear diff (via removing 4 bolts) and tie it up underneath the car. I towed mine all the way from Virginia this way, so I KNOW it works. Joe True about the tow vehicle having to be large enough, full size truck or van should be pleanty. Same is true for the tow dolly also though (I got turned down for it once and had to borrow a bigger vehilcle). As far as disconnecting the rear driveshaft, I'm sure it will work, but I don't think I'd personally ever do it. To each his own, but I prefer to play it safe anymore and not have to fix stuff I don't have to becasue I tried taking a shortcut... That all fine and great until something goes wrong.... ask spy, he's seen some of my great trailer pulling skills....
![]() Biggest problems with too small of a pulling vehicle are brakes and steering (and overheating the tranny). Main reason U-haul is so picky about what they let pull thier trailers is they only have surge brakes on them, and they aren't going to be liable when Joe Shmoe's brakes go out cruising downhill with a 3 ton load... ![]() -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....
