Just wondering what the weak points are to this car and/or drivetrain if I start adding big power.

I know the first thing we all think about is adding HP, but at what cost? Are there any reliability concerns or known parts that need strengthened or replaced?

TIA!

depends on who you ask. LOL. I'm sure marcus will tell you anything and EVERYTHING from the motor to the turbo. I bet nate will say they brakes will fail. and Dan will say whatever I want to buy next be it trannies rear ends or women.

personally I say whatever you cause to break. cars will last as little or as long as you want. just depends on how you treat them.

yeah, but c'mon... why mod your car for it to be a garage/trailer queen? I am of the belief that it should be driven hard, almost like you stole it!

(BTW, I love the sig wink.gif )

justin has a good point... anything can and will break if driven right, err wrong, whatever...

but.... with that said, our trannies are known to not be able to handle what we mod them to go through... if you have a three bolt rear end... that's pretty weak too. while anything can and will go.. that's my bet as to what will go first, or what will cost the most to fix. or what you should strengthen up bbefore pushing the limit.

So the tranny is definately something that needs strengthened or replaced before upgrading to big power?

What is the best upgrade path for the tranny? Do you just replace it with stock new, or are there aftermarket or retrofit transmissions that work better?

i'm not the best one to answer teh upgrade path for a transmission.. but don't go with a new stock on... there are upgrade peices, i think like spider diff??? i have no idea what the pieces are...

actually, wortdog, natedogg, KOU, Spy, well, basically any one on the top ten posters list except for post whoring me should be able to answer that for you better... josh at slo ponies is a reputable transmissionbuild up guy in the local area.

what type of hp are you talking about? wha is your budget... cuz i think what spy is getting at, is that if your budget and goal aren't to the point where those items are going to break, your better spendiing your money on other parts...

bigger? Badder? Care to say more here or is your mouth full of garner's wide load?

According to www.vfaq.com

TD06-20G 430-450hp @ 22 psi

Not too shabby spy. Sure it's not 500 hp, but it's definately enough to put garner's 16g one wheel wonder down like a gimpy plow horse come winter-time.

FYI, his tractionless terror rates at the following:

TD06-16G (large) 365-385hp @ 22 psi

I know what turbo it is.

Swoggler - The engines in these cars can handle a lot of abuse on a stock a bottom end. I'm still running a stock bottom end in mine at 400+ hp to the wheels. The drivetrain is usually the first thing to show signs of abuse. As xian mentioned a 4-bolt rear end from a 92+ is stronger than the earlier 3-bolt. A 4-spider gear center diff or spool is stronger than the stock 2-spider diff, though I have yet to destroy my 2-spider center diff. If you like to shift quick and hard I also recommend upgrading the shift forks to the Evo steel ones and possibly upgrading the to a double synchro 2nd gear. Pennzoil syncromesh gear oil also works wonders.

You can find more info on this stuff at www.teamrip.com and www.vfaq.com

My goal is still 93 pump gas king and lots of hp.

I'm not going down without a fight. You better be prepared to spend spend spend because this could get really competitive.
