I'm looking to go to a 50trim for the setup of all setups. Ball bearings just make it that much better. I was looking at PTE's 50trim turbo but this one from AGP looks every bit as good.

As Natedogg has found, I would not recommend piping your oil supply line in from the oil filter housing with-out a restrictor. My BB turbo is going to get it's oil from the cylinder head...via micron filter.

As I understand it, piping from the oil filter is supposed to get you cleaner oil to the turbo (because the oil from the head has to make its way throughout the rest of the engine first). That and oil drains from the head first when you shut the car off. If you run it off the oil pump, it's not going to loose oil pressure to the turbo as fast. I'm not sure how I'm going to run it yet but it'll probably be off the oil filter. That being said, I'll just have to ask Nate what restrictor he used on his.

BTW, I really like the micron filter idea. Only problem I can see is that if your motor starts to come apart without you knowing it and the filter plugs up and your turbo destroys itself from oil starvation. But, I AM an overanalytical overprotective DSM manwhore. Besides, if your engine starts to come apart, you're F*ed anyway.

All true statements Brett.

Cleaner oil is good, but Forced Performance recommends getting oil supply from the cylinder head to cut down on the clog points you are worried about. Any ball bearing turbo should employ a micron filter and if your feeding from the oil filter housing you will need the restrictor. That makes two points where debri can get clogged in the oil feed line rather than just one.

BTW - They recommend that the micron filter be checked and cleaned at every oil change to cut down on any long term clogging.

Marcus

Nice! Good to know information Marcus. Very true about unnecessary clog points too, I hadn't thought of it like that. I doubt this turbo is going to be in my future anytime soon though. I've got plenty of other things I want to do first while the 14B is still on there. The 50trim would be the ultimate setup for my car (in my mind) so I've got plenty of work to do yet in order to support it.

I like the filter idea because if your engine does start to come apart it should save the turbo from any chunks that got in the oil. The turbo won't be spinning much after the engine comes apart. Running a supply line directly from the filter housing does provide cooler, cleaner oil, but the pressure is way to high. It will eventually blow the seals, especially on a dual bb turbo. I will be running this restrictor on my next turbo to lower the pressure. You could also use this restrictor and drill it out to 0.078" with a 5/64 drill bit. The other alternative is to run oil from the stock location on the head because the pressure is lower. Kicks is doing it with a micro filter, so the oil is clean and low pressure just like a dual bb turbo likes it. Just hafta remember to check that filter often. Only downside I can see to supply it from the head is the oil will be hotter than it would be from the filter housing. Not a big deal though. The reason I'm not going with the head location is because mine stripped out a long time ago so I just keep it plugged.

Some good info on oil pressures and oil supply locations to bb and conventional bearing turbos can be found on this dsmtuner's thread and this forced performance faq.

Thanks for the links Nate. There's some really useful info there. I personally like FP's filter/restrictor here:

http://linux.forcedperformance.net/merchan..._Code=UNIV-GSFL

Specifically designed restrictor for use with Garrett dual ball bearing turbos and the filter design is designed to prevent cogs (long and skinny so that if junk clogs the end oil can still flow around it).

Looks like a nice filter/orifice set up. Slowboy has a similar set up here. http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=4...4b92f8a042feb1d
