Darryl, Nate, Marcus, and anybody else with a high HP drag DSM: this is a thread for you.

I'm wanting to know about when to expect the stock transfer case to start exploding. Now that I'm brewing a pot of means for the higher HP numbers, I'm thinking the transfer case will be the one weak link in my setup. For right now, it's just a 14B car but by the end of the summer, it will have a 400hp capable turbocharger on it. More than likely, it won't really make 400hp on the stock motor, Supra SMIC, ACT 2600, street tires, and a 2-step, but I'm hoping for something over the 300 mark at least.

I've thought about cryotreating it or something of the like. Opinions, concerns, and questions welcome. Thanks.

I've been told by many people that just as long as you don't dump the cluch @6000+ RPM on slicks the stock t-case will hold up.

I asked the same question on tuners a few weeks ago, that why I thought I would offer this small amount of advice.

FP 3065, Ported 2G exahust manifold, AEM EMS, 3" 02 housing, Shepard Racing Stage 3 tranny, Fadinza 8 LB. flywheel, Exedy stage 2 tripple puck thick ceramic cluch, 08 from the tank to filter, -6 to rail from filter, Aeromotive FPR 1:1 riseing rate, Crower Stage 4's. All of that and I don't know what I want to do next.

I've seen T-cases blow out, but only on 10second or quicker cars. That's when those big dawgs get the Drive shaft shop upgrades.

Ok good. I'll have a welded diff so the stock differential won't be a problem any more but I was kind of worried about the transfer case. I'm wanting to go 11 seconds maximum.

The two-step will be set at 5k rpm (unless anyone else has any reasonable objections) on street tires, no slicks for me.

With that much HP your steet tires will blow off to the point you should have to worry about breaking the T-case.

Any suggestions for the 2-step rpm? I based it off of what I was launching at when I went to Cordova.

as far as the t-case... when it breaks, upgrade. biggthumpup.gif

as far as your 2-step... You'll have to play with it to find the perfect spot where you're not blowing off the tires, but not bogging out of the hole.... latter will probably be more of the problem. With the right tires, you should be able to launch at the rev limiter. biggthumpup.gif

Meh, like I said, I'm not really interested in slicks or anything but street tires. I like to think that will help me from breaking drivetrain parts. Chips can always be re-burnt if I need to play with it a bit. With the welded diff I should be able to launch at a lower RPM with the same effect.

Besides, it's cool to be able to spin two tires, but Uber JDM Mad Tyte to be able to spin all four!

I launch right around 5000, but every car is different. When the clutch is warm it'll break all 4 tires loose though.

I used to launch on the 14b at about 5000k spinning all four with most of the mods that put me in the 12 second range. Once I put in the spool I had to drop the launch RPM down to 3500-4000 to keep from totally blowing off the tires. Each mod will make the launch RPM a little different. Just feel it out like you said.

As its been said transfer case life depends on how the car is launched. If you can avoid shocking the drivetrain and wheel hop it should be fine. Our fastest time 9.48 and 60' 1.41 was actually with the stock transfer case and drive shaft. After that we made more power and the output shaft or the yoke would break when grabbing second gear if the track was sticky.

Back in the day with the red car I launched at 4500-5000 rpms reving the engine versus holding the engine at an rpm. Ran the car to 11.50 without a transfer case mishap.

I'm hoping that the new 2-piece driveshaft will help with the drivetrain shock and actually allow the driveshaft to twist slightly on takeoff. At least that's the nature of my thinking anyway.

Thanks for the help guys!
