hello all,I'm looking for info on what is all needed to install a turbo on my 90 laser rs-2.0,I'm pretty sure that I have most of parts needed but just want to make sure before starting job,(exhaust manifold, turbo, down pipe, oil pan, computer, injectors, oil cooler adapter, intake&throttle body)I have been told that I will need MAF & other misc.sensors that I dont have, will I need wiring harness?what flywheel&clutch is best for this application?
I have worked as a auto service tech for last 18 years with GM's and Fords, but new to the import turbo stuff, any info would be great to help make this conversion go smoothly without problems.
Thanks
How much boost is safe on the 2.0L nt motor?
Would it be better to use a MLS headgasket?(for lower comp.)
What light weight flywheel&clutch is best for street and strip use?
Will I need the wiring harness?
Lower temp t-stat?

You will need an intecooler, blow off valve and all the piping also. Yes, you will need the MAS also. You'll also need the oil and coolant lines for the turbo.

One majow difference that will hold you back is that the non-turbo motors run higher compression than the turbos. You'll have to keep the boost low otherwise you'll blow the motor up rather quickly.

i took a mitsu eclipse non turbo and pulled the motor and put a turbo motor in it.
i bought a plymouth laser wiyh a turbo motor. i took two cars and made them one.
i had to strip both cars basically down to nothing. took the complete wiring harnesses out of each. then put it all back together. i have roughly 1300 dollars in it. that is including both cars and a mild rebuild of the turbo motor. it was alot of work and took me about 4 months. i chose this rout cuz i thought it would be a pain in the ass trying to figure out everthing you would need to do the switch useing the same motor. plus i thought i would forget about twenty things and the car would never run.

^^^ Best method for things going smoothly. You'll definately need a new wiring harness to accommodate the added sensors and such, or at least a new harness is the easiest way to accomplish those goals.

Thanks for info, the more research that I do for this it just makes me want to stay with my GM RWD V8's,so I think I'm just going to use some N.O.S. to add power to my 90 laser.

If anyone needs parts let me know

For being the sugarrivertuner, you're not doing a whole lotta tuning are you? That's always a good philosophy though, "F#$& the tuning, throw some NAWSSS at it!!"

What? You're giving up that quickly? Dude, you just need a junk turbo car (easily had for around $500) capable of donating parts, and you're there. 1g turbo pistons are a dime a dozen, and so are the used parts you need to make this a reality.

Or, just go ahead and NoS up that NA engine, and be repeatedly spanked by a totally stock turbo DSM time and time again.

I don't have a problem with nitrous...you just seem to be giving up on the turbo a little too easily. But its your call man.
