Based on the numbers that I have seen IROC Z's run the 1/4 between the low 14's and low 15's stock depending on the year and engine. Since your car stock runs between high 15's to mid 16's I don't believe you are going to have a very good chance, but stranger things have happened. Even with the $400 that you plan on spending I don't think you will get the horsepower gains that you will need unless you go with nitrous. I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear. Maybe you can get lucky and he can't drive and you can get out of the hole better and put a lead on him while his spins his tires.
About the pulleys and cam gears I don't think with a stock 2.0 n/a that you will see the gains that you are looking for. Yes they will help but are you willing to spend almost $400 on a full pulley set to gain about 15 hp. Anybody feel fre to correct me if I am wrong I am just going based on what I know and I am by no means an expert. My advice.........sell the n/a and use that money plus the $400 that you have and buy a turbo DSM do some free mods and use what money you have left to do some other mods, up the boost to around 15psi and take him to school. -------------------- Brian J

the cam gears i am looking at are only 240 for the pair. ia m going to run this car n/a i want it this way so i have something diffrent ya know what i mean. i got some plans for it beleive me. the whole fuel system will change, injecters, rails, pumps and regulators, i am going to save up for new camvs valves and rods. its not going to be over the corse of six months but i think i can do it in a year. but as far as the car goes now. i think the pulley i was lookng at where made for the turbo cars, i am going to put the short shifter in it prior and i am trying to find a way to get some more power. i was told with the cam gears i should be able to push 175. i hope because this rich little morton kids is eating away at me and i just want to show him i can beat him all motor. if you have any other help let me know what i can do. any tips tricks, other than nitrouse and sell the car i get those alot. but i guess thats understandable.

QUOTE (bburden86 @ Jun 30 2006, 01:55 AM) ia m going to run this car n/a i want it this way so i have something diffrent ya know what i mean. Perfectly understandable. If you can pick up adjustabe cam gears for that price then hell go ahead. I have never seen any for that price(new anyway). When you get the other mods done that you were talking about they will be even more beneficial. Just be sure you know what you are doing when you adjust them or have someone there that does or else you can do more harm than good. A set of drag radials on the front or a good set of a soft compound tires might help you get him out of the hole and build an initial lead also. Good luck, I hope you can take him down. Here's an idea, invite him to SCDC and he can beat up on as many 4cyls as he wants -------------------- Brian J

The biggest reasons you don't get a lot of replies are - 1. we don't know a lot about the n/a cars and 2. what we do know is that the n/a cars aren't worth messing with.
If that's what you want to do, great, go for it.... just don't come crying to us after you've dropped a grand on the car and you're still getting whomped by minivans. -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

I would say you don't get any posts because your posts are nearly unreadable. Please take the time to write in complete sentences. I'm not trying to be a prick. I just don't like having to read posts twice to understand what's being said.
That being said, your car is good for a 15.5 quarter at best in current form. For quick power you could add nitrous. That could get you into the 14s with good driving. Even then you'll be hardpressed to keep up. -------------------- GVR4 866/1000 = the perpetually broken car

If you are not signed up on dsmtuners.com yet, check it out. They have a 1G N/A forum with about a dozen posts. Half of them are about putting a turbo on it but one guy had the all motor itch. This is his thread:
1G All Motor Alternative The claim in this thread is 58.7hp and 52.4 ft/lbs of torque after $1855 (includes labor) Seems to me that if you can get similar results then with another $1500 you might put a hurtin on that z28(assuming it is not 93+ z28 with the LT1). -------------------- Fast & Furious on the outside...DSM under the hood!!!

I raced N/A 1g's for a few years, the best thing you can buy short of N20 or a turbo kit, is CAMS. I installed a set of Crower stage 2's into my car and went from running door to door with a compeditor to pulling car lenghs in seconds. No lope at idle, no ecu mods nessasary....anything. Just drop them in and go. If you want I'm a Crower dealer and can get you a set from Crower and stay with in you budget.

FP 3065, Ported 2G exahust manifold, AEM EMS, 3" 02 housing, Shepard Racing Stage 3 tranny, Fadinza 8 LB. flywheel, Exedy stage 2 tripple puck thick ceramic cluch, 08 from the tank to filter, -6 to rail from filter, Aeromotive FPR 1:1 riseing rate, Crower Stage 4's. All of that and I don't know what I want to do next. |

Also, the dirt track is full of guys running NA eclipse setups. I"m sure they have lots of tips and tricks to making them go faster. See if you can't poke around during some of the races and talk shop with the crews.

Hehehe, I've still got guys coming up to me that want to know more about how to make their DSM Hornet faster. Sometimes I just want to tell the rednecks that their cars need better drivers!
