Ok guys, I have come across a decent deal on some cams but want to know what combination would be best.
also the sets are Crower 264's and HKS 272 , would i be able to mix the two different brands? If so, then what would be best combination to run? INTAKE - Exhaust 264 264 272 272 264 272 272 264 these will be installed when i install my new turbo and of course the supporting fuel mods. Disclosure: I assume this is on a stock internal motor. You didn't give any other specs so I'm going to stick with this assumption until you say otherwise.
Absolutely you can mix and match brands. Is it best for the goals you have? Eh, can't answer that one. I've seen/heard both the 272/272 and the 272/264 combo making the 350whp mark before. If it were me, I'd go with the 272/272s so there's no problem making it to your goal. That, and the fact that both combos cost about the same and if you go smaller and don't make it to your goal, you'll be wishing you bought the bigger cams. 272s on a stock 2.0 sound pretty good! -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

You can put different brand cams together, but I wouldn't. The cams are sesigned by the manufacturer to work together. I personally will be going with the HKS 272's to run 300-400 HP at the flywheel. So I would recommend those.

Thanks guys, I will be getting the 272's as of right now.
Yes, its gonna be on a stock ( rebuilt ) bottom end and fresh head. I only plan on running around 23psi with all the supporting mods; intercooler exhaust fuel turbo which leads me to another question? which turbo would be better to reach my goal and worth the money; Evo III 16g ported w/ 34mm flapper or the precision T & E dual ball bearing SCM5031re , which is good for 450whp -------------------- "One of the most Crazy and Undecisive Members in central Illinois"

#1 - 23psi and/or 450hp on a stock motor is pushing it.
#2 - an evo 3 probably will not support 450 hp. I think you need to worry less about big cams, big turbos, and big numbers and more about making sure the car will actually run and drive when it's done... I say put the car together, then fgure out where you weak link is and upgrade it one part at a time. -------------------- The fastest car I own is a minivan....

EvoIII 16G no questions asked. After dealing with aftermarket turbos (my GT35R still holding out *crosses fingers*) and having friends dealing with aftermarket turbos long enough I have decided any turbo I put on my DSM after this will have the Mitusbishi name on it (ie 14B, 16G, 20G, etc.).
Auto manufacturers generally hold their product to a higher reliability standard than aftermarket. That's why you see 14B turbos that last well beyond 100K miles. I don't think there are many aftermarket turbos that can claim that. The difference is Mitsu turbos are designed by engineers to be workhorses and continue working day in and day out. Aftermarket turbos on the other hand are designed for maximum horse power with less R&D spent on making them last a long time. With the Evo III 16G you can reach your horsepower goals and do it on a reliable turbo that will work for you day in and day out. If you are looking for even more horsepower at the expense of some lag the 20G is also a good choice. Of course it has different fuel requirements. |

I would whole-heartedly agree. 450whp is near catastrophic ignorance on stock motor I believe (but don't quote me) that Buschur only reccomends a MAX of 450 flywheel hp on a stock rebuild with stock rods that have been shotpeened. I think once you realize what a 350whp DSM feels like you will be pretty happy with that. And that goal, IMO, can be done with an EVO III or a 20G.
What headgasket will you be going with? Cuz the stocker sure isn't going to hold up. IMO, Cometic FTW. I had a very good experience with the Mitsu 4-layer gasket and ARP head studs (another must-have) though and would reccomend anyone looking for something a bit less. -------------------- "I hear he tunes the space shuttle also...and that thing is fast"

We have both 264's in our car. Originally it was for better idle. Now with a much more flowing head and intake i would prefer the 272's.

I have read on a few different websites that the stock bottom end can hold up to 400 easily. I have a cometic headgasket and arp headstuds also , so that is taken car of. 350WHP is actually more towards the number i an aming for. This way it is reliable and can whoop up on some domestics.
Thanks for the help guys and we will see in the near future what she can do. I plan on driving it for awhile and then pushing it until she pops so I have an excuse to build/buy a badass motor. -------------------- "One of the most Crazy and Undecisive Members in central Illinois"
