I'll be at Cordova next Sat. Sept 8th and Sept 30th is the finals.

Actually you can run brackets any Friday T&T. You just sign up for Trophy class, that the bracket class.

I have never drag raced at a strip before... what do I have to do, do I need to preregister, do I need to bring a helmet or any other safety gear, could I just follow you around once I get there so that I know what is going on.

has to be a Saturday or sunday due to my work schedule.

how do they pair the cars up in a bracket race senerio.... from what I understand, the pairing is from a hat draw situation.... but that means that if paired up, my ol lady's cavalier could beat John Forces Funny car as long as I had a good R/T and I ran more consistant that he did.

I usally try to get there at 1:00 to get a spot in the shade. Track open at 2:00, racing starts at 3:00. You get two trials runs before eliminations. You can also enter the RT challange (win $250) and pay for a third trial run ($10). It's a long day, First round for my class is about 7:00 and I usally leave around 9-10:00.

There's different classes based on speed. Your cavalier would be True Street or you could run Trophy. Cordova Class Rules Trophy I beleive is cheaper.

You run whoever is lined up around you. They usally try to pair up first round with cars close to the same speed.

Your right, you could beat John Force if you were more consitent. But I wouldn't want him running past my a$$ at 300!

so technically, as long as my cavalier runs slower than 13.99 (pretty sure it won't go faster than that) all I need is me and the car.

I will try to see what I can do to be there on the 8th around 1pm.

Thanks again, hope to see you there.

Yep, that's all you'll need.

If you plan on going, shoot me a PM and I'll save you a pit spot. Then you won't have to show up so early. biggrin.gif

I am going... just sent you a PM...

BTW... any tips for drag racing an auto car? I have really never done this before.

do I sit at the line and hit the gas on the last yellow or do I mat the gas to the floor with my foot on the brake (engine at stall speed) and let off of the brake at the last yellow???

I think I will probably be safe as far as tire spin is concerned, I don't think the car enought HP to spin the tires off of the line under track conditions. so I think I will probably be better off driving around the box right???

what is going to yeild the best ET/RT

gsxracer80, sorry man looks like a fragged my motor (no compression in one cyl) last friday and won't be running this weekend.

As far as you questions.
Drive around the water box, smoking the tires on radials will do nothing. Do a small dry hop to dry/clean them off when you get on the other side of the water box and then go stage.

When you stage, light one bulb and then wait for the other guy to stage and light his first bulb. Or vice-versa. Don't go in and "double-bulb" before the other guy light his first light...I hate that, I find it bad racing etiquette.

You do want to stage on the converter. Just give it enough gas to get on the converter and not too much that it starts pulling you through the beam.

I go when I see the last amber light up, but every car will react a little different. You'll just have to practice.

how it went....

racing the ol' ladies Cavalier

well, I started the day in "test and tune" only because the ladies at the registration booth talked me into it...

I ran my first run, ran a 16.918 @ 81.46 and had fun... so I went back to registration and registered the car in true street... went back to tech (don't know why they just said ok and sent me on my way)... and waited for the call for true street.

ran my next qualifier and accidently left the A/C on (very hot day) and lost a bunch of time and speed in the traps running a 17.759 @ 78.97

with nothing to figure dial in on (and the chance to luck out on a perfect tree and win $250) I paid to run in the R/T challenge... and lost it too, but I did run a 16.784 @ 81.74... .152 R/T

BTW winner of the R/T challenge won with a .001 R/T

I went to the first Elimination figuring that I would make more H.P as the day went on (due to track cooling) and I was correct... and set my dial in at 16.77
wow!!! what a mistake in calculations, should have dialed in a lot less time than I did... I ended up running a 16.713 @ 82.17

however not only did I break out but I also botched the start with a .347 R/T... giving the win to the GT 'Stang who ran a 15.019 @ 90.30 with a .104 R/T and a 14.90 dial

below are my slips:

the first one was next to a Nissan 350Z... I was in the right lane

Sounds like you had some fun biggthumpup.gif That's the idea....so are you going back for another try? You only get better each time you go.

Sorry I couldn't make it, believe me, I'd rather been there than working on my car.

The A/C thing gets a lot of people. Just be more careful next time. Not only does it slow you down but it's unsafe because it puts water down in the staging lanes and on the track.

Well, cross my fingers, I'll be there on the 30th for the finals.

My wife prefers to go when there's other people to talk to. I imagine it's not too much fun sitting in the stands while I sit in the car.
