That's right folks... The POS is on the road and ready to kick some rear!!

Ok, so it needs a little tuning.... and a Translator... and a little rewiring... but I did drive it home from Josh's shop yesterday. Having some major issues with MAS's. The Blaha won't idle at all, and I got un unhacked one with just the honeycombs missing (both), idle is better, but it still wants to die until it gets warmed up. Also seems like it's missing.

The drive home was hilarious... I had at least 3 cars that acted like they wanted to play. I didn't feel safe not having the boost controler set yet, and not being able to read my boost gauge or my A/F gauge (lights aren't working). Kristy also said that I was leaving large clouds of black smoke when I took off. blink.gif I'm hoping it's just that I'm running rich. I'm gonna have to get with one of you fellas with a logger soon. Tranny actually doesn't grind, but it seems like it's hard to get into gear. Hopefully it's just because it's been sitting dry for a while.

I'm gonna have a set of 5-point harnesses for sale in a little bit. Travis, this might be your chance. It just takes to darn long to get buckled up if your doing a lot of quick stops. i'm gonna look for a differnt style, something that might work better with the stock seats, too.

i want to send out a big Thank You to everybody who helped out. Josh, Kris, Nate, Travis, Darryl, and all the rest of you for even just the moral support. No way this would have ever happened without you. cool.gif

I'm gonna try to get some pics today.

I am so relieved... maybe I can have a little fun this summer. biggrin.gif

That's great news Rob. And BTW-That thing is SUPER rich. I'm not sure why it's THAT rich, but I know when I was at Josh's the whole engine bay reeked of fuel.

For reference, I never had any trouble running a Blaha in warm weather at idle or any other RPM for that matter. When the weather got cold, the idling was a whole other story.

Anyway the car looks really good. Like I said that muffler mounting looks awesome! Kinda like a calling card...Bring it on cause I'm gonna kick your butt!

Thanks for the compliments. Unfortunately some more of the expected bugs started rearing their ugly head today on a trip out to Chillicothe. I apparently have a decent oil leak (through the oil cap I think), the cheap vaccum line I got from Autozone is colapsing on me, and under hard accelleration, the exhaust is hitting the bottom of the car (no flex section). Oh and the pesky CEL keeps coming on. rolleyes.gif

Idle seems to be slowly fixing itself, maybe the computer just needed a chance to relearn how to control the car.

Anybody got a spare oil cap? I'm thinking mine might not be quite right to begin with.

Rob

I just have to say congratulations. It made me all warm and fuzzy to see it at Josh's. And it will really make me smile.gif to see it running on the road. It has a good home, now - the dear shell of awdnot2.

Well.... I was coming home late Wed night after a long day of work and some more work, wife following in the suggestively colored truck. First day I drove the car to work. Taking it easy most of the time, as not to attract unwanted attention, and to aid in the break-in of the new motor. Truned onto the backroads to our house, the long dark stretch of two lane streched out in front of me.... aww sheiot... one little run ain't gonna hurt anything. First gear, revs high, pop clutch, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Second.... weeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Let off, find 4th, slow down to the speed limit. Wow, this POS feels fast. Then again, I've been driving S-10's and Dakota's for the past year. Stop, turn. Another fairly straight stretch.... Hmmmm.... Just one more quickie.... First... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Second... Weeeeeeee.... POOF! Just like a magical genie had appeared under the hood, rolls of white smoke... Son-of-a-b#^$%! Fortunately it was only about 2 miles home in a 35 MPH zone. Temp gauge was just starting to hit the danger area as I pulled into the park. Pull it in the garage, shut it off, go inside.

Haven't been able to identify where the coolant has come from... all the lines feel tight. I'm just hoping it wasn't a frieze plug... wouldn't that be about right. (Kalina put hose in BTW). Maybe this weekend I can trouble shoot somemore.

Other problems that I have discovered:

- Tranny shifts HARD. No grinding, just takes some persuation to move form gear to gear. Makes quick shifting imposible. Rebuild time already?

- Power wire to my aftermarket gauges is dead... can't read the boost after dark, A/F doesn't work at all. Just need to get off my rear and rewire them.

- Car still idles at 2500 at start up, then drops and surges at around 1200-1400, droping intermittently to 600 before the ECU pulls it back. Thinking it's either MAS related or the ISC. You guys with the translators have any idle issues?

- slight miss while crusing. You can hear pop in the exhaust every few seconds. MAS again? Coil pack?

In hindsight... Anyone looking to get into DSM's cheap, THIS IS NOT THE WAY. I could have bought 2 running cars for what I think I will end up in initial investment. I'm making a significant amount back from the sale of used parts, but it isn't worth the time. I've got close to 3 months of working 3-4 nights a week invested, and it still doesn't run good. Very discouraging.... mad.gif

Well, it looks like ya beat me in the race to get 'em running! Congrats on getting her going biggrin.gif
Just a few kinks to work out Rob. You'll be happy you did it all from scratch in the end I'm betting.

In regards to the harnesses...

You should take a look at the SCHROTH Rallye 3 and Rallye 4 harnessbelts. They're DOT legal (only DOT-approved belts on the market to my knowledge) and are easy to get in/out of. I used the Rallye 3s for over a year, and have been using my new Rallye 4 belts for a few months. No real difference in performance between the two, other than that the Rallye 4s seem to center the shoulders a little better.

Check them out at www.soloracer.com

Travis - Yea, I guess I learned more about these crazy machines than the other way, some things I'm not sure I want to know. unsure.gif

Ben - I'm working on another idea with Travis, but if that doesn't work out, I might be looking into that. One thing I hate about the harness is the inability to turn around and look behind you. That and it's very difficult to go get food from the drive thrus... biggrin.gif

Its all about the 6 point camlock race harness.

Not exactly DOT-legal though. biggrin.gif
