Hey guys. I noticed my oil pressure dropping rapidly on the way home the other day, i pulled aside and put some more oil into it and limped it home, only to figure out the piece pictured below had a hairline crack and was leaking oil. By the time i got back to look at the car (an hour or so later) all of the oil had leaked out, nothing was on the dipstick!! I reached up to touch this part and snap, it just broke off like that (and the threads are still in the housing)

My question is....what the hell is this piece? I tried finding something similar to it at autozone with no luck, they only carry the oil temp sending unit. Am i going to have to order this from mitsubishi exactly or what? and how am i going to get the rest of the threaded fitting out of the housing. I tried using an extractor but the broken off stud is just too tight, so for now i just tightened the extractor down and thats what is plugging the hole biggrin.gif I have figured out that the pressure sending unit has the same size thread so if i can manage to get the rest of the stud out of the housing i can at least plug the hole with the pressure sending unit, and besides i dont like driving around with my oil pressure guage on 0!!!

Thanks for the help if provided, and if any of you have that piece sitting around or in a parts car you might have i'd be glad to take it off your hands!! Thanks

It seems to me to be a oil temp guage. I am not an expert on htese cars. is this on a 1g or 2g? and about where was this peice on the engine? I would emagine someone who has stripped there cars like rob, nate, dan, or marcus and many other could be able to tell you bro. good luck.

Your right, the larger unit with the black wire on it is the oil pressure sensor. I wasn't aware that we had oil temp sensors but I guess that's what the smaller unit could be.

Either way, one of these guys like KOU or Rob should have a spare 'T' with or with-out the sensors so you can make your repair. The part that is stuck in the engine is definitely retrevable. Just take your time and be careful not to break the housing. I'm not sure how big the hole in the remaining material is, but if it's tiny I would drill it to get a bigger easy-out in there.

Good luck!

the larger one is the pressure sender, the smaller is the level sensor. Basically, from my knowledge of not having the sensor connected before, if it's not connected you 'should' get an oil light lit on your instrument cluster. The pressure sender will manifest itself in the form of no visible oil pressure on the sweep style gauge.

This peice you've taken a picture of was definately rigged in there. I probably have everything you'd need to replace the whole housing which will probably be the easiest way to fix this problem rather than trying to extract the part of the thread that is stuck in the AL housing. My guess is that the sensors are perfectly fine, but I've got those too. You're from Bloomington right?

unfortunately I'm not really mobile right now, so going to the garage and checking what parts I do have is a really big deal for me. I'll see what I can do. PM me if you're interested.

yeah all im looking for is the T, right now to plug the whole ive got an EZ out stuck in there biggrin.gif As far as the two sensors go, im not getting an oil light strangely, but my oil pressure guage does not work sad.gif

I *should* be able to find an extraction set made for brass (this is what my brother told me) that will get it out. Even if I can get the rest of what is left out, i dont *need* the "t" bracket cuz the pressure sending unit has the same thread as the "t" and I can just screw it in and hook it back up, that way at least I'm getting an oil pressure reading

I think travis has this piece we are going to meet up sometime and verify this thoug
