When dropping an engine, what method do you guys find is easiest? Sure, for a lot of the stuff, you can get around pulling the engine, but lately, I've had a couple jobs where I was like, 'what the hell', i'll just make it easier on myself.

Personally, I always used to pull it from the top. Then after working on a buddy's MR2 and realizing how easily the subframe (rear in his case) came off the car (4 bolts on a 2G MR2, 6 on a 2G DSM) I gave it a shot on a certain 2g I've been working on. I was amazed when I was able to drop the entire junk in about 20 minutes (FWD), with him working as well.

So tonight, lucky me had another opportunity to drop a 2g front assembly. AWD this time, and though I did have to also remove the T-case, the iron hit ground in less than an hour. Not too bad, I think.

So maybe this is a self congratulatory, pat myself on the back post, but perhaps it'll make you guys think twice about pulling the engine from the top the next time (and it'll probably be sooner than later, face it) your car needs to drop trow.
