My drivers side auto seatbelt is going bad i think. When i shut the door, it wont fully engage unless i reopen the door a few times and shut it. When i open the door, it works fine going the other way. I guess the motor for it must be going bad, so does anyone have one laying around? I would prefer to dump them all together, but i dont know how to get ahold of the manual seatbelts for it, unless someone may have a pair they dont want? I live in Mt Sterling, but i go to bloomington/rantoul area quite often so meeting wont be much of a problem if someone around the area has one. Thanks

I've got a set of power ones around as I'm sure a few others on here do.

Second optoin is to pick up some honda manual belts from a junk yead. Rob's running a set he bolted in so he could probably give you some tips on install.

Third option- I've got a set of 5 point harnesses for sale if you want to ditch the belts altogether.

I think we might have a couple lying around here, somewhere.

I would like to try the 2nd option and ditch them all together, so i will look into what type of honda to look for. I really hate these things, they choke you to death if you have to lean in your window and turn on the car. But if it isnt practical for me to do the conversion, or its just to big of a pain, then i will take one of ya up for the auto ones. All i need is the drivers side motor i guess thats the problem with it. I should fix it before it breaks altogether. I doubt i will be lucky and it will break while engaged. Any of you live close to rantoul or bloomington/normal?

A 5 point harness (although really cool idea) just would be kinda overkill for my laser, since with a 1.8, it wont ever see any type of racing. sad.gif

What is robs username so i can send him a PM? thanks guys

I think the belts are from an accord, but Travis will know that for sure. Belt install is pretty easy, but also very ugly. I'm sure with a little more time invested it could look better, but I don't think there is any way around cutting some of the plastic around the mounting points.

You're more than welcome to take a look sometime, or I can try to snap some pics of what I did.

BTW- This is Rob biggthumpup.gif

hmm about how ugly? I dont mind cutting the plastic a bit as long as i can cover it. Yeah it would be great if you had a few pictures so i can see how badly i have to cut. Im not good with names, but which one is travis? How much do i have to rip up to get them to work. And i guess how hard is it gonna be to take them out of the car from a junkyard, i never have removed seatbelts before.

I'm Travis. A little history here on the manual seatbelt swap. I picked up a set from an early 90's Accord from a junkyard to swap them into my DSM so I could ditch the weight of the power seatbelt assembly. Before I completed it though I ended up going to a set of harnesses. Rob (POSawd) ended up with the belts and put them in his car.

Any seatbelts will work really but I happened to plug the Honda ones into the DSM female part of the belt assembly and noticed it was a direct fit. Just made it a little easier to leave the receptor part attached to the seat and pull the belt part of the assembly from the donor car. Really I wouldn't be surprised if it was a standard size thing but I know the Honda ones happened to be an easy fit.

I may take a look into doing this. How much cutting, drilling, welding does it take to get them installed properly. This isnt something i want to rig in to work. I will try the junkyard and see what i can find. Are they a big deal to remove from a car or will that take cutting too. As long as they lock like they are supposed to then im all up for doing this. Thanks guys biggthumpup.gif

Something else you could check into is the switch for the auto belts. I had a similar problem years ago that the dealer fixed under warranty by putting in a new switch.

hmm that sounds like something that could be it, because my dome light doesnt come on when the drivers door is open, but does when the pass door is. The seatbelt does work, but sometimes it doesnt and i have to keep reshutting the door to get it to work.

My other belt started acting up about a year later and I just pulled off the rubber that covers the switch and sprayed a little WD40 on it. It's worked fine ever since.
