will a trani from a 92 laser really work in a '93 GSX, i thought that the lasers only came in FWD

heres what I found

also, if it will work, is it a good buy

Lasers were made only FWD from 90-91. In 92 they added the AWD version. The tranny should work fine in a 93.

Rob's right about the AWD lasers in '92.

Looks like bidding is up to $300 with the reserve not met yet. Shipping from Alabama (where the tranny is) will probably run you about $125. Personally I don't think that's such a great deal for a used tranny.

You'd still be doing the install yourself so why not just pay to have yours rebuilt at Slopony's? At less than half the cost for a freshly rebuilt tranny it's the route I'd go. Pulling one tomorrow actually and it's going in to Slopony's.

You could spend the extra money you'd be saving on upgraded internals and have a tranny that would stand up to more abuse than the used stocker.

*edit* Just rechecked the ad and it mentions that the seller is only charging $60 for shipping so that part should be a little cheaper at least. I'd still go with a rebuild though personally. *edit*

Nice! Thanks for the support KOU! We will be looking forward to rebuilding your Trans as soon as you can bring it in. Don't forget to bring your Optima battery with you. wink.gif

accually guys, I was thiking the same thing about the price but I just thought that I would check with you. also thanks for the info on the laser, I was unaware that the laser came awd after 92. cool.gif

*edit* I will be dropping the trani out but probably wont have the $$$ till income tax return time, would someone from slopony please check on the price for parts that are proably gonna be needed and include the price for a double syncro upgrade, also what other good worthwhile upgrades are recomended. (I am not a trani guy, so I dont know what all is needed) I also realize that you wont be able to know what all is wrong in there till the trani is torn apart, I am just looking for a ball park number so I will know about how much I need to save up. also if I dont have the money yet how long will hold my trani with out crazy storage fees or possably keeping, till I get the $$$ built up??? *edit*

SloPny will hold your transmission at no charge if you plan to have it rebuilt here. A tranny is small a whole car is a different story. wink.gif

I'll get back to you with a ball park including the stock double synchro second that is already in your 1993 transmission. Just add the price of any other option you want to add from the sites Nate referenced for a ball park. BTW- You may want to check with those suppliers on delivery times on the parts your thinking about getting. Sometimes it's pretty rediculous.

UPDATE: The synchros generally run between $150 and $200 and that's usually all that is bad. So the total transmission rebuild should be between $300 and $350 plus any extra goodies that you plan to have installed.

Others may disagree with me, but I'd go ahead and front the money for stronger shift forks. But I only say this because I have broken 3 sets of the stockers.
