my alternator belt snapped last week and i replaced it. i adjusted it to the correct tension (i have the huge manual for it) and put everything back together nice and tight. then three days later it started squealing somethin terrible. so i went back and it had loosened itself just a tad so i tightened it up agian. it was fine till aobut yesterday morning where now even after the car is fully warmed up, the belt squeals like a motherf*#er whenever the clutch isnt in or when its in 5th.
is there something im doin/not doin right? i have never changed a belt before, but i did it by the book. i am getting rid of the car soon, and i dont want the new owner to have to deal with this problem, so what can i do to fix it? any info is appreciated. thanks

Could be the harmonic dampener separating from the crank pulley or one of the pulleys installed backwards. Either could cause a slight misalignment and squeal.

Are you sure it's a belt and not the throw out bearing?

Good Point! THat is unless the belt is actually loose again...
