Well my transmission looks as if its going out. I'm pretty sure im just gonna take it easy until this summer, but I was wondering what info some of you fellow AWD owners could offer. I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that slo-pony does tranny work, is this correct? If not, where in the area would you guys suggest? Right now im thinking, fresh rebuild, with replacing all parts that are broken\worn, and a small list of upgrades from TRE. Planned upgrades im looking at are TRE steel shift rails, EVO III forks, and GVR4 1st gear and input shaft. Thoughts, suggestions?? Thanks!

Wow, this is getting to be one of the most frequently asked questions on DSMCentral. DSM transmissions...go figure!

Slo-Pny has been rebuilding DSM transmissions for $150 labor plus what-ever parts you need if you take out and deliver the transmission. A new set of synchros costs 'Roughly' $150. You can obviously price out all the TRE stuff yourself.

My motto is if you've got the money, beef up what you can. In reality I've been able to get away with stock shift forks and rails. I really enjoyed my GVR4 1st gear untill it grenaded on me after about 75 WOT launches in 3 months. Since then the stock DSM AWD 1st gear has worked great for me.

Hardening from Fast Forward would be my next way to add money to the pit if I were going all out. Shift forks have gone out right in front of my eyes, so that would be my first conservative step. The stock forks should be adequate as long as the synchros are letting gear changes slide smoothly though.

Thanks for the info Marcus. I've got it semi-fixed for now, so ill try and be gentle on it, but its deffinately gonna be rebuilt this summer, so ive got plenty of time to decide what to do. The tre-1st+2nd gear looks nice for autocross.

I did the Evo forks and new synchros. I doubt you'll need the rails, but if you have the money you might as well. IMO, the double synchro second isn't worth the money they want for it because new shifter cables solved all my shifting problems. I had it in my FWD tranny that was rebuilt by TRE and didn't notice much of a difference. But who knows, that notion may backfire on me at the strip some weekend. The GVR4 first is kinda iffy. Marcus isn't the only one that's blown it up, but on the other hand, there are others that haven't had any problems with it. Probably depends on how hard and often you launch.
