Full Version: And the logger says....

KOU In3
The beater runs smoothly but power seems to be way down. About minivan speed currently. Check engine light is coming on so I threw it on the logger.

code 31 Detonation Sensor. Code won't clear either for some reason. Gives me an unable to clear type of message.

On Friday, among other things we swapped ECU's and we plugged the '93 E-prom unit in. Swapped pins 6 and 14 as per the vfaq.

Planning on putting a spare boost gauge in tomorrow to see if it's just boosting minimally and that's what's causing part of the lack of power but still doubt it would cause the knock sensor error code. Wondering if it has to do with the ECU swap somehow.

I even tried unplugging the knock sensor briefly expecting it being unable to read the knock and giving me some performance back (at least help me track things down). Same issue, same crappy performance, same code thrown.

Now I can understand a bad knock sensor but would think unplugging the sensor would give me a different reading. Leading me back to the ECU swap train of thought.

Something I'm overlooking?

Disconnecting the knock sensor or a bad signal from the knock sensor will throw the same code and should give you a constant knock count of 9 on the logger. Your timing should be severely retarded because the ECU will be running the car in limp mode. It sounds to me like you need a new knock sensor, or you need to check the wiring from the knock sensor to the ECU.

Btw, to clear codes the car needs to be not running, with the key switch in the 'ON' position.

Any luck with this?
