ok, I will soon be on the market for a good turbo, I dont want to run a 14b cause I dont want to have to wring it out as far as I am wringing out my current one.
what would a good turbo be for my car, I want good spool up time, and good HP gain, with-out heavy fundage nesessary.
I know some of you have these available.
turbos that I am considering right now are the 16G, br500, and a T3/T4 hybrid
I will probably go with whatever turbo can give me the biggest bang for the buck.

they have a lot of turbo's for the eclipse but the one i am getting is the
EVO III 16G. $550 for 550 cfm's. that's pretty good. it supports about 380 HP and has spool just like a stock 14b. but go with whatever you want. i just don't have the need for a BR500 or the cash.

For $535, you can't go wrong!! This would bolt right up to your car, and you could run it without doing anything else to your car for now.
This is the turbo I plan on putting on my 95 when the time comes. 400 hp is definately achevible, but 450 would probably be pushing it.

Do you seriously think it would be worth it to have all that turbo and stock everything else?? thats what I said to myself cause I was actually getting one of these. I'd have all that power but not using it anywhere close to its potential. Hence, why I was looking for the basic mods first then slappin on this one.
I had read somewhere that the BIG 16g was capable of 400hp and the evo II BIG 16g was capable of 450. But, I guess 400 will have to do. LOL.

First I have to say that I'm all for the 16G series turbo as a street turbo. However, I think it's a mistake to kick around the 400+ horsepower figures with the turbo while at the same time talking about a budget bolt-on with minimal upgrades.
Those seeing the upper ranges of that turbo's capabilities are very well suported. If you're going to shell out for cams, front mounts, and sheet metal intakes, the 16G is most likely going to be a stepping stone turbo for you as well, IMO.
Having said that, I still think it's a great choice and can be bolted on without a lot of the supporting mods you'd need with a larger turbo set-up.
As far as T3/T4, you'll have to be more specific as that covers a broad range. For a full Garrett set-up, expect to pay for a lot of extras needed to bolt it up as far as manifolds, wastegate, new downpipe, etc. The PTE bolt-ons are a lot more economical there.
From your post, it sounds like the 16G is a good choice for you. Although a lot of 'bigger' options are available for only a few hundred more, you'll have to pay for a lot of parts to support the turbo well. But if you don't want to wring every drop out of your 14B, don't expect to see 400hp from an EVOIII 16G.
I know I sound like a broken record by always asking this but, what are your goals with the car and turbo in terms of power to the wheels and timeslips?

I think that you were maybe talking to Rob here, but I dont have that issue, I wont have the most heavily moded car in the club, but I am "not exactly stock" either. Lets just say I think I have enough supporting mods to run a EVO big 16G.

In no way did I mean to imply that you can run 400 hp by simply bolting on a 16g. That would obiously take a lot of supporting mods. But, you can bolt it on and run it without having so much as a fuel pump. You would have to keep the boost low, but it's doable. Would it be a waste? Probably not a logical step as long as you haven't maxed out your current turbo, but it's a pretty resonable option for someone who blew up a stocker.

I agree with Rob and Travis, it sounds like the 16g is for you. And for the money, I'd go with the Evo III 16g. Seems to be the best of the three.

from what iv learned, the evo III b16g is like 10 bucks more, able to support more horsepower and has a faster spool up time because the porting on it is 2.5 compared to 2.0 on the b16g... It also has a bigger compressor wheel i believe. Im looking at getting the EvoIII b16g for myself, its almost a no brainer. I havent even considered the small 16g... it spools faster i guess, but not as much highend power.
correct me if im wrong here

Do you want it to spool quick for drag?
DVNT Kidd

i'm imagining he wants it to spool quick so he can get out of the corners much faster. ben is all auto-x, so logically a quicker spooling turbo is well-suited for him. imo, fast spooling turbos are better suited for auto-x as opposed to drag. i've done both and again, imo, though it seems like it goes by quickly, one would have more time to spool a meatier turbo with slower spool time during a drag. while in auto-x, who knows? it depends on the course, i imagine. the more twisties, the more throttle control, braking, etc. and obviously, you'll need a quickly spooling turbo to get you out of them corners. again, imho.

yes, I am all about quick spool time!!! if you come out of a turn and you can't get the turbo to produce boost you are a sittin still 2800 lbs hunk of sheet metal.
auto X and road coarse racing is mostly won in the way you enter and exit the turns

From what I've read the big and evo III 16g both have about the same compressor wheel, but the evo's wheel is quite a bit lighter. That is why everyone is running it now. It gives you all of the top end of the big 16g with the spool of a small 16g.
