Full Version: Summer 2004...SloPny Double Threat

I'm going to make the official announcement for the current plans at SloPny Race Works.

As most know, I have produced a very bi-polar program for my 1992 AWD Talon in the past. I have spent enormous amounts of time keeping 'er clean, with all the mechanicals in good, well maintained working order. While at the same time beating every last ounce of performance from the stock 14b 2.0 Mitsubishi set-up for that year. My DSM gave up a couple pistons and a few 14b turbo's to the cause, but I can't complain with three best of quarter mile passes of 12.6's at Cordova.

It's now time to let you all in on the most recent developments and plans for my Talon.

Last year between Cordova's Midnight Mayhem when I lost a piston, and the date for our Sport Compact Drag Challenge... I commited to building a 2.4 stroker for a bit more sleeper attitude. After mucho research and a point of no return on parts purchases, it was clear that a much bigger turbo would be required to handle the profuse exhaust flow generated by the additional displacement. So a BR500 was added to the aquisitions while things got buttoned up about a week before SCDC.

Sadly a machining decision thought to be conservative ended up blowing my special head gasket on the way to SCDC. More money was sunk into the monster with eight new SS oversized valves, a valve job and a resurfacing. Things came down to the wire the night before Vicary day, only to find that my bet on the turned down G64b crank turned sour and Rods started to knock like a 'TAPS' salute to the sinking of my cubic dollars. (Now it may make sense why I decided to try a turned crank since the G64b cranks aren't nearly as common as the 4G63 versions)

Time has past and parts are in for a more experienced and well defined build on a 2.5 Liter stroker engine supported and held back to 500WHP only by the BR500s ability or lack there-of to do so. Spool on the untuned set-up with knocking rods and all, was coming on similar to my 14b with the 2.0 engine. With this amount of power potentially on tap I plan to be able to pull in mid 11's at 25psi, without having to abuse the set-up in a full weight stock appearing 1G DSM. I should be able to roll out and ease into my launches, while not worrying about speed shifting and the problems associated with missing. I will have to live and learn the new requirements put on my drive train and wallet as the experience unfolds.

That however is only one new Threat for the summer of 2004...

The second and just as potent threat comes in the form of a Black 1993 RX7 recently acquired from image4u2see! Image has put together an incredible assembly of parts that make my mouth water. With the thought of them installed within the beautiful lines of the most sexy RX7 ever created, I can't help but be excited to say the least. There is no exact timelime on this wicked single turbo charged, 500HP machine, but when she comes out you will be the first to know.

Currently you can see a few dark pics in the Gallery of the new SloPny shop ride. I will keep you updated on the progress...

See YOU this summer wink.gif

Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder you keep breaking parts marcus. And now an RX7 to throw into the mix?! I guess I better get some parts on order soon. tongue.gif

HOLY SH!T dude!

Still reeling from the jealousy.

OK, first: Spooling a BR500 like a 14B. That's sounds like a party and then some.

On the RX7, from the build-up I'd been following it sounds like another enviable project. A little surprised to see you with an auto though there.

Sounds like you P-town highrollers are pulling out all the stops yet again! Can't wait to see them all put together.

Thanks guys...

Honestly though...High rollin this aint. I was able to build the 2.4 with coated Ross pistons, and new Eagle rods along with all the machining for around $2300. That is not much if any more than others have spent on a 2.0 rebuild. The RX7 is a very incredible acquisition, but made possible only by being in the right place at the right time. BTW - Image will have a wicked performing Mustang to back up any trash talking that he might have to do this year as well. wink.gif

I would definitely prefer a manual transmssion in the RX7. We are currently weighing options for switching to a manual set-up versus the built-bullet-proof-automatic that Image had assembled.

We will see...

after all the baseless claims and unmerited heralding that was done over that rx7....something will finally get done about it, hurray! rolleyes.gif

anybody ever find out what happened to the copycat version of that car that shawn vest was working on? unsure.gif

biggthumpup.gif Congrats marcus on your rx7. I can't fully comprehend how dedicated you are to jump into the rotary arena in addition to your continuing work on your talon. ohmy.gif

Sweet deal on the RX7! That should be hella fun. You gonna be toolin around in that while the stroker's down? cool.gif

Which Mustang did Image pick up, btw? I can't believe he talked so much trash about how his rx7 is going to clean house only to sell it before finishing it.
awd4kicks
Actually if things go as planned the Stroker will be done before the RX7.

And Image did assemble the top-of-the-line set of parts to make the RX7 run like it looks and be durable enough to contain it. He, just like many others ran out of steam and interest as the project drug on without the help he planned on having. I think DSM guys in general are just too damn crazy to give-up when the chips are down. I resemble that remark anyway.

BTW - Image will be picking up the very cool looking Black GT after we build it to the hilt with everything short of a nitrous system.

I know how that is. I just have to give him some crap for all the talking he does. He knows I mean well. biggrin.gif

I'm sure that Mustang will be a contender though. A GM guy going to the Ford side?

You're still welcome to hang out with us crazy DSMer's, big guy. I don't think we really fit in anywhere. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I call those people quitters, and rightly so.

Jason, I see the boasting has begun already on this new mustang as well as your monte. rolleyes.gif The Monte will grow new nut sacks??? Ah, good then, because that thing was less than impressive. sad.gif Fast Mustang??? ohmy.gif Marvelous, perhaps you'll develop a new marketing strategy to convince people this vehicle is as quick as you reported your last failure to be. tongue.gif
awd4kicks
Ok you guys have made your points...lets move on unless you want to PM each other.

BTW - I started the boasting on the Mustang...

me too. biggrin.gif

Hey Marcus,
Just wanted you to know that your first post sounded really familiar. These buildups start small, but the longer that the parts take to go on the bigger the parts tend to get. My own setup went from NA to 14b to 20g to frank 3 before I even got the parts installed. Gotta love your go big or don't go kinda attitude.

I wondered where image's rx7 was going.

Once you get it finished, I suggest going up to A-spec in Chitown for tuning. I wish I could say the same for my rx7, but my tuner lives in Texas who is responsable for my engine build/dyno tune.

Oh, as for all the manual/auto, I'd stick with the auto, especially if you'd like to drag it as it'll be easier on the rest of the drivetrain.

Congrats Marcus.
I just hope it's easier from here on out to get the rest of these cars done in a timely fashion, ready to pounce on all.
