ok tomorrow im getting gsxracer80's stock 14b off his car as a temporary replacement until i decide, and mainly can afford a 16g or whatever i want. my question is how long will it take to get the turbo off his car, pay him, go back to my house, dig my gst out of the snow and get it in the garage, take old smokey off, and get the new one in? also take into consideration that anything i do to a car ends up taking forever. my freind is gonna help us and he knows what he is doin. also what kinda tools will i need. any advice would be great.

ok, it shouldn't take too long since the majority of the bitch work is already done, there are just a few bolts left and it's out, just that they are hard to get to and i've never done this before so I don't know the best way to get at them. swapping the old one from your car and putting my turbo into your car will pepend on how much time you have on your hands this weekend, it can be done in less than one day if you know your stuff and work steady

what can i start taking off now that will save me some time later?

start with some heat shields and stuff, the turbo should come out in one piece with the manifold (acording to the chiltons and haynes books), you might have to remove a cooling fan to get the heat shields off with out chopping them.

go to the parts joint and pick up some PB Blaster, you'll need it!!!!

I would start off by taking your car in the garage and start taking off the Turbo working your way until it is free to come out. This is the best way to learn about your car. also you should get some sort of Service manual for your year so you know exactly how to put her back together! I dont know much about the Turbo replacement, but if your friend knows waht he is doing I wouldn't fret to much! biggthumpup.gif Good luck!

well my freind has a mkIII supra turbo with a full jdm engine and tranny and basically the whole HKS parts catalog in it. and he did ALL the work himself. so i know he knows, but changing the turbo on a supra and changing one on an eclipse is a lil different so im sure we can figure it out.

ok i took the top heat shield off. now to get to that bottom one i will probably have to take out that one fan. no this is probably going to sound stupid, but i will be taking the whole exhaust manifold off w/ the turbo right? and i will have to get under there and unbolt the exhaust dp? as you can see, im not very sure on what to do, but i do have a manual so im sure that will help. keep the advice comin. thanks guys.

Yep, and while you're down there, unbolt the oil return line at the oilpan.

so can anybody tell me how to get the bottom right bolt off the exhaust manifold? do i have to take the studs out too? can i reuse those or is that a bad idea?

I dont have a turbo but i imagine my manifold bolts up about the same, and i think i had to use a swivel and extention and had to pull the dipstick back with my hand to get on it, that or i used a wrench. Once the heat shield is off you should be able to get the nut off. I guess just try to be creative and you should be able to get on it
